Default Made a Raw Apple Cake -- Thanks Barb

The recipe for raw apple cake posted a few weeks ago by Barb (Melba's
Jammin') caught my attention so I saved it. Yesterday I got around to
making it. It was very easy and very tasty. But there was one glitch.
After I started I noticed that there were a couple of minor omissions
in the recipe. No problem. I could have winged it OK but I googled the
recipe and quickly found the same recipe posted earlier by Barb that
cleared up the uncertainty. It always takes me a little longer to make
anything when following a recipe for the first time. So it will go
even quicker when I do this one again. Next time I may try leaving the
spices out.
Anyway, thanks, Barb. Along with your recipe for cream cheese coffee
cake that I've already used a few times with a few variations, this
makes 2 for 2! ---Sam D.

Hmmm. What'd I leave out?

Well, the ingredients listed nutmeg and ground cloves but no
measurements. The directions said to first combine the ingredients in
column one. But all the ingredients were listed in one single column.

Here is your earlier posted recipe that I copied from Google's
archives:

Raw Apple Cake
From: Melba's Jammin'

2 cups diced unpeeled apple
1 egg
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. each nutmeg and ground cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Mix together apple, egg, oil. sugar, vanilla. Sift dry ingredients
together and add, along with nuts. Just mix it up. Batter is very
stiff. Press into greased and floured 9" round baking pan. Bake
35-45 minutes at 350º. While still warm, glaze with a mixture of
butter, powdered sugar and milk.

Got it. I'm thinking that I don't measure the nutmeg or cloves -- and
probably put in 1/4 tsp somewhere along the line to avoid just such
confuzzion. Sorry about that. It kind of came up in the discussion of
September 24-25.

IOW: to taste.

I don't like nutmeg and 1/8 t cloves would be enough for
me... so I'd fill it in with allspice and/or cinnamon.

I have a very similar recipe (old one - came from a Crystal Sugar
contest) that calls only for cinnamon. It's terrific. But, of
course, I fiddled with it a little and added 1/8 tsp. cloves and 1/4
tsp. nutmeg (I like nutmeg) - it is much better with only cinnamon,
IMO. The other spices added too much darkness and smothered the apple
taste.
