![]() Here in the Western world, we call this guy "nuts", in Asia and other parts of the world they call it a "delicacy". The poor guy picked the wrong country. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012...ears-in-prison (NBC NEWS) An Arizona drifter who skinned a cat and wore its tail and innards around his neck was sentenced to two years in prison on Wednesday. An Arizona Superior Court judge also sentenced Russell Christopher Hofstad, 25, to four years probation on his release, the Maricopa County Attorney’s office said. Hofstad pleaded no contest last month to a felony animal cruelty charge and guilty to a burglary charge. According to the criminal complaint, police arrested Hofstad in January after he broke into a Phoenix warehouse used as a music venue. -- J Young http://www.americandecency.org/ |

The title was funnier than the story, it drew me in right off the bat. I think it was the word drifter that got me. It's funny how people get labeled. The guy could have been called just about anything in the article - nut-case, loner, loser, burglar, whatever - but they chose drifter, a pretty good choice. At least the guy was not wasteful. Many would eat the cat and throw the guts away, this guy put it to use. Lack of direction for his obvious creativity has brought him to the doorstep of criminality. He could have been another Picasso. TJ |

You're saying it's barbaric to have a nice juicy steak or some > good old fashioned Oklahoma BBQ? People have a cultural aversion to eating animals that are not usually considered as food sources: cats, dogs, rats, horses, etc. Other animals, like cows, pigs and chickens, are eaten without a second thought. Some animals, like deer, rabbits and squirrels, are more likely to be eaten by people who hunt recreationally, as they are not usually stocked in the local supermarket. Other animals, like snakes, insects, maggots, etc, can be eaten in survival situations, though in some cultures they would be considered a delicacy. Like many areas of human activity, there isn't a whole lot of "rhyme of reason" to what is considered acceptable fare. -- MarkA Keeper of Things Put There Only Just The Night Before About eight o'clock |

Other animals, like snakes, insects, maggots, etc, can be eaten in survival situations, though in some cultures they would be considered a delicacy. Finally, cannibalism is practiced in some cultures, though is usually considered taboo, except in survival situations. Though not usually discussed, I have no doubt that some of the survivors of the concentration camps in Germany during WWII survived by cannibalism. Like many areas of human activity, there isn't a whole lot of "rhyme of reason" to what is considered acceptable fare. -- MarkA Keeper of Things Put There Only Just The Night Before About eight o'clock |
