I wonder, in a field filled with worms and other underground wigglers, would they notice any difference between an average sized dead guy coming down and a really large one like Duncan? I'm sure they're happy to get what they can, but every so often a big wonderful meal comes along, almost in league with those once a year Thanksgiving Day dinners served at soup-kitchens all across America. "I can feel the earth shaking, I think a good one's coming down", says daddy worm to mom and the kids. TJ |

I also thought the late Michael Jeter was good as the death row inmate whose sponge was not wetted before he got put in Ole Sparky. The creepy guard who wigged out at the end was Doug Hutchinson, who became better known of late for marrying his 16-year old girlfriend and I think they are making a reality show out of it. The ensemble cast for the Green Mile was terrific; I didn't think there was a bad performance among the group and Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey was the best, he should have won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar though he was nominated. It was an outstanding movie, not quite as good as the Shawshank Redemption but still one of the three or four best movies of the year. |

Boring and long and very very phony. The star of the Green Mile was the bevy of bubbles that would spew from Duncan's mouth when the spell would overtake him. The Academy Awards are meaningless and I hate every capitalizing them as I did here out of respect for those who still cling to them as something special. Movies suck compared to good tv. The actor is the least significant ingredient in film making. A few years back the big screen actors - nearly all related to others already in the biz - snickered at tv and would not appear on it except to hawk their abysmal movies. Nothing against Duncan personally, but come on, with all the football players out there from college on up surely he can be replaced in a heartbeat, as can the more so-called accomplished and studied actors, who to me are the worst of the bunch and should take their over-rated craft to the stage. Not often, but I've done it. I never could get through even the first few pages of any Stephen King book as his writing is very sloppy and hard to follow. His movies are better, which isn't saying much. I don't like King because he still refuses to accept any responsibility for getting hit by a car while taking a mindless stroll down the shoulder of a road in Maine. He got hurt pretty bad in that one and has never let go of the bitterness and resentment. Yeah, I know, the artsy genius was deep in thought, trying to come up with another novel, just for us, and was not able to hear or see anything other than the insanely creative thoughts bubbling out of his one- track brain. I suppose that's the excuse. A guy walks along a road and gets hit by a car and accepts no part of it - that guy is no star in my eyes, although I'm sure he saw a few when the car hit him - or should I say, he stumbled into it. I never liked the guy, but I don't care if others like him, although I will admit it ****es me off at times the garbage people see today and think is great. Sickening. TJ |

Crowe plays Dr. Jeffrey Weigand, the Chemist who turned on his former employers. Highly recommended, directed by Michael Mann. Great ensemble cast, including Al Pacino as the CBS Producer and Christopher Plummer as Mike Wallace. |
