Got, you must be a real tightwad. I don't understand your point. Usually one can buy ice cube trays at a store for 3 or 4 for a dollar at the beginning of the summer season. It's been a long time since I bought them for water ice cubes. The last ones I bought were for making basil cubes for storage. So, what is an appropriate price in the real world? Janet US |

Plus the big cube doesn't melt fast. They are easy to get out of the tray since the tray is silicone. Tovolo makes standard size cubes as well. They are not cheap but they will last forever. I bought mine from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...2Cap s%2C1122 |

Even the dollar store sells them in a pack of 3. They are so cheap anywhere, I'd say just try some as you see them then decide what you like. G. |

I'd say look for the same thing on Amazon and see which ones people consider the best on the planet. Still just as cheap. |

Still just as cheap. I think this is going to be my route. The link ImStillMags gave is for a flexible tray but I need a firmer one. I empty my ice cubes by the tray into an open container in the freezer. We go through a lot of ice here, in part because I give music lessons at home for living and I always offer everyone a glass of ice water, which many take me up on. They look identical to the one's that recently cracked, but I recall the cracked one's were some no-name brand, 2fer a dollar. I'll get back to y'all if the rubbies crack in a year or so. ![]() nb -- Definition of objectivism: "Eff you! I got mine." http://www.nongmoproject.org/ |

I needed new ice cube trays and found some on Amazon, nothing special, average size and shape, with *rave* reviews. They LOVED their ice cube tray! So I got some. They make ice cubes. How 'bout that! Live and learn. They were Rubbermaid "Servin' Saver Deluxe" Ice Cube Trays: http://tinyurl.com/94dftpq 127 Reviews and a rating of 4.7 You know their FANTASTIC because they make ice cubes. |

I have 4 of those, they work fine, I like them a lot. When I needed them, they were kind of hard to find, and Rubbermaid was selling these ridiculous ones that you have to stack in a certain way. Really? Lame. I also had two that came with a Frigidaire I used to own. Those are the ones I really like and those are the ones wearing out. Geez, they're only 25 years old. Heh. Now I have six of them, brand new, and I'm happy. nancy |

My problem is, the older trays stick. You didn't read my post (or don't remember) where I published the remedy for plastic ice cube trays that stick... coat the inside very lightly with salad oil and let sit over night, then hand wash with dishwashing liquid. The oil will become part of the plastic so will release ice easily, and should last several years before having to treat the tray again. Some new trays release because the silicone release agent that's sprayed into plastic injection molds hasn't been removed... it's always a good idea to wash all new plastic food containers before use... all new kitchen equipment should be washed well before use. |
