I read about that the other day. It doesn't sound like it is
something that just any old bunch of thieves could pull off. I mean,
you have to be prepared to handle and move that sticky stuff. And,
what are they going to do with it? Surely someone will notice if a
new label shows up on the market or if one particular seller has an
abundance of syrup. Sounds fishy to me.

Precisely my thinking. Who the hell fenches 50 gallon drums of maple syrup?

Perhaps they smuggled it out under the guise of a Sat morning pancake
breakfast fundraiser. <shrug>

A large part of the global strategic reserve
has been stolen from a secure depository in
Quebec!

I've read speculation that warehouse receipts
were falsified to show greater deposits from
maple syrup processors than actually occurred,
allegation of theft being just a cover-up for
the real crime. If that's the case, there's
no syrup to fence. The syrup never existed
except on paper.

Of course, that would never happen in Quebec.

It certainly couldn't be a single heist. That would require an awful lot
of truckloads and it would be noticed. Does seem rather suspicious.

That's the provincial pastime in "La belle province".
