A few years ago, I saw the Last Poets, and my wife and I heard that word many, many times, and I can hear the word when there's a clear reason for it being spoken. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4H0rwumscA We were certainly a *White minority* in that audience, but the Black folks there seemed to assume that we were anti-racist. In most contexts the word is just crappy, and in polite discussion, it's referred to as, "The N-word." Serious White supremacists would use the word privately amongst themselves no matter what, and I haven't heard it from anyone in the past few years, but I'm less concerned about that one word than the fact that Black persons get killed by White cops and White *citizen-cops* like Zimmerman, and get away with it because there's still a mindset in the USA that Black people are scary. Systemic racism is fading, but it's far from gone. When I post about this shit, I do so as the son of a racist father, and a dearly loved mother who kept her mouth shut about being non-racist until he was out of the picture. My mother died in 1985. My father never saw my son, his grand-son, because I fell out with him over his White supremacist crap. Perhaps this is the year that I'll **** on his tombstone. --Bryan |

I have only been to visit his grave twice. I would probably go more often but he is buried in in a war graves cemetery in Denmark. I am currently sitting here waiting for a phone call from a woman in the UK. She is the niece of Dad's pilot. He and the other crew members were killed when their plan was shot down in April 1943. Seventy eight years ago today he was wandering across Sjaelland hoping to find a way over to neutral Sweden. |
