Got some walnuts the other day, but can't find my nutcracker in the drawer.
(I think the ex may have taken when she moved.) Anyway, they are fairly cheap and will look for a new one... The one I had was just your basic one, but was from my parents house so had some sentimental value. Anyone have a nutcracker that is not just the plain jane V? I love cracking walnuts this time of year. Without a nutcracker, I think it would make a mess to just crack them open like an ape... Any suggestions on getting a not too expensive but unique nutcracker? |

Keep your hand cupped or you'll break up the walnut halves. I don't care much for walnuts and can only eat one or two. This works out fine because you can only do this trick 2 times before someone tells you to knock off that shit. |

For me walnuts are easy to crack, I have large very strong hands, I use both hands to cup two walnuts, I gently press one against another and voila! But for me the best nutcracker is a large slip joint pliers or a small Channelock pump pliers... those silly hinged things sold as nutcrackers are more trouble than they're worth. |

If you are talking about english walnuts and you are not physically challenged, they are easy to crack by holding 2 in a hand, squeezing, and cracking one. This is the way I've always done it. Gary |

Yeah, they make a mess. Though I kinda like how they feel... I thought about just using pliers, or channel locks/vise grips-- basically same thing. Or, I do have a hammer. |

This works out fine because you can only do this trick 2 times before someone tells you to knock off that shit. ))))))))))))))))))))))))))) When I was in my 20's I gave my parents a wooden hinged nut bowl shaped like a walnut. They liked to have nuts in the shell around the holidays. This nut bowl had a big wooden mallet for whacking open walnuts. Of course you don't really want to whack them unless you want broken up pieces of walnuts and have to pick out pieces of shell. A gentle tap along the seam. Walnuts crack open fairly easily. Jill |

You can always soak your nuts in Pinesol... then you'd have pine nuts, little pignolis! |

Only couple things. One was the knick knack off the drum table, but turned out my sister wanted that. So had to trade my other sister; she gave me the old cookie jar; and I gave my other sister the knick knack... When my mother had the cookie jar, it always had cookies. It was magical... Now that I have it, it doesn't have that magic anymore. It's apparently a peter pumpkin eater cookie jar. RRP Co Roseville, OH http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&b...2,s:20,i:34 9 |
