One big loaf of Italian bread

The recipe didn't say to split the dough into 2 loaves, and that it
would be one big one. Wow, is it! I didn't make it to Christmas dinner
at my mom's because I'm still sick, but I had to get this in the oven.
It proofed overnight in the fridge and the dough was HUGE. It came out
a little darker than I usually like but I'm sure it will be fine.

Merry Christmas to you all too.

That was the first thing I thought when it came out of the oven,
sandwiches! I have a small ham that I'm going to have to cook while I
still have all this bread. I hope it freezes well since I wasn't able to
bring it to family Christmas dinner.

Thank you Koko! :) I hope you had a nice day. Well, since you're on
the left coast you're probably still in the middle of it.

Looks perfectly baked to me, I prefer baked goods "high brown".
I hope you're feeling better soon, and that you enjoyed the holiday in
spite of not feeling well.

I like the color. Not quite as big, but my local Italian store makes
hoagies using the whole loaf for $8. A bit too much bread for some, but a
heck of a deal.

I guess the color came mostly from spraying the loaf with water every
three minutes 3x in the beginning of baking. I don't make a lot of
fresh bread and the only I've done recently is French bread. This is my
first Italian.

For a sandwich with a whole loaf, you can hollow out a lot of the bread
from inside it and stuff it with meats, cheese and veggies and cover
them with seasonings, olive oil and vinegar. I think that would make a
fine sandwich without all the bread and just the crusty outside.

Sadly I got a 'can't load' message so can't see you loaf. And I really did
want to see your bread because I've only just sent off an email in resposne
to a friend who had sent me a pic of his loaf of bread that I told him
looked just like a giant Italian loaf :-(((

I hope you feel better soon.

It loaded today. And it looks great. I'd be quite happy with the colour of
it. Nice job.
