Default Gastrovac

There's a Gastrovac on eBay today.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/330847128554

I hadn't heard of this machine before I saw it
on eBay. Googling, I learned it is a vacuum
chamber with a heating function (described
as being like a hot plate). I wondered why
you'd want to pull a vacuum on food while
cooking it. The pages I found say it's to
drive a liquid into the food being cooked,
to suffuse it with the flavor of a sauce or
broth, sort of like a vacuum marinator combined
with a hot plate.

I'm not excited by that concept, or at least
not enough to bid. You can do the vacuum part
with a Tilia for much cheaper. The Gastrovac
is currently at $500 with 15 hours to go.
I'll be interested in seeing how much higher
it goes. I think it'll go north of $1000,
but probably not much higher. Maybe $1500.

The Tilia canisters are plastic and can't be
heated. Maybe somebody should come up with
a metal canister for the Tilia.

Great name. I think that is what they use for colonoscopy procedures.

From the sound of the name without reading anything more it sounded like
a stomach pump.

I am even less excited by the concept the title of this thread put
in my head. I had no idea what a gastrovac is, but on the basis of
the name I thought it might be some kind of vacuum aid for people who
want to puke up bad food but can't. So they insert the tube and it is
drawn out that way. That's the image I got from the title alone. A
disgusting image, yet worth a good laugh, which means more to me than
good food. They need to change the name of the product. What do I
know? Everything I think sucks goes on to great success, so maybe the
gastrovac will become a big hit whether they change the name or not.

Yes, FoodSucker would have been a better name.

But that doesn't make clear that it's for food.
In the absence of any other information, people
might think it's for sucking something else.

Something with "extractor" in it would have been good. I'm a title
guy. I want to write titles for a living. Well, actually I don't want
to do anything for a living - but if I had to I wouldn't mind sitting
around thinking of titles for things. For instance, you post - I
would have titled it "The Arrogant Adviser".
