I'm eating these now and they're sooo good! Got these at Nuts.com but you
can make them yourself if you have a lot of time to wait for them and a dehydrator that will operate at a low temp. When I made them, it was a happy accident. I wanted dried, unsweetened cranberries which are hard to find. I recently bought some from Ebay that I could have sworn said they were unsweetened. But they clearly are. And the only other ones I have seen around are sweetened with fruit juice so still too many carbs for me. I was also on a raw vegan diet at the time, hence the low temp. So I washed the berries and popped them into the dehydrator. And waited. And waited. Took many, many days and the end result was something puffed up and crunchy! Light as air. And sooo good! You see my mistake was that I didn't blanch the berries first (which of course you can't do on a raw diet) or at least cut them in half to speed the drying time. I did after several days pierce a hole in each one which I think allowed them to dry more fully. The ones that I bought are not as crunchy as the ones that I made. They do have a wee bit of moisture and chewiness to them but they are still light as air. And I love them! |
