The only movie I saw in theater last year was The Hobbit, and I found it quite disappointing, more so than the Lord of the Rings movies. The last good movie I saw in a theater was the final Harry Potter movie. Anyone who hasn't seen those should get the first one on DVD from the library or a cheap rental store. Another movie that I watched recently for maybe the 5th or 6th time is A Midsummer Night's Dream with Michelle Pfeiffer, Kevin Kline, Callista Flockhart and Stanley Tucci. Just magical. --Bryan |

The race card is ridiculous - I suspect obesity is also worse among lower economic classes and there is, unfortunately, a connection between race and economic class, and besides, if you're not going to target the people who have the problem, what's the point? As far as I'm concerned, they can ban soda altogether - useless stuff, IMHO. I remember, when our oldest was very young, around six months or a year, we started giving him watered down fruit juice because we thought it was good for him and he drank it more than plain water. It turned out to have the opposite effect of soda - he drank it so much that he didn't eat as much, and he actually lost weight at a time when he should have been gaining it. Our pediatrician read us the riot act - my point: sugar water is a thing that messes with the human body in bad ways. I avoid it, and I also avoid fruit juice for the same reason unless it's freshly squeezed and, even then, I have it only rarely. Rant over. -S- |

Amazingly, my son turned down the offer of me squeezing him OJ. I made some for my wife this morning, and I got all the refuse fiber, both from the basket, and the insides of the peels. I am a glutton for fiber. Unfortunately, I can be a glutton for less beneficial things too. > I avoid it, and I also avoid fruit juice for the same reason unless it's > > freshly squeezed and, even then, I have it only rarely. > Non-fresh squeezed juice is a thing of the past in this house. Juice should never be a staple in the first place. It is a treat. I think of all high carbohydrate foods as treats. We had pasta free lasagna tonight, and my wife said, *quote*, "I don't think I've ever had fourths." Her fourth serving wasn't a small one either. Plus, we had olives with it. My son's pediatrician told us when he was a baby that kids don't need juice, and that it just makes them fat. We haven't stuck to that strictly, but my preadolescent son has a pretty well defined 6-pack. > > -S- --Bryan |

I hated it when they removed the intermission, it's the main reason why I stopped going to movie theaters for 10-12 years. The only exception, and the reason why I resumed going to the movies, is a cinema 10 miles from here whose property also owns the nearby bar: they DO have the intermission, a good 15 minutes to spend at the bar snacking and drinking -- "Un pasto senza vino e' come un giorno senza sole" Anthelme Brillat Savarin |
