A few weeks ago I wrote here saying I liked Thomas' "English Muffins"
but wished they were larger. Well, Thomas has just come out with
"sandwich sized" muffins that are just what I wanted. I wonder if
someone at the Thomas bakery reads this news group?

I saw those sometime back...at least a couple months ago. I doubt the
mfg'ers read this group.

I've seen the "sandwich sized" muffins off and on for at least 4 years. I
think they might have been doing a market study before going into full
production. (Or maybe the market study is still going on, and it just hit
your area.)

If I ever found out that a manufacturer did something based on the opinions in this cesspool I'd never buy anything of theirs again. Hell, I won't even go near a certain brand of chocolate because that faggot JOHN KUTHE flogs it on here. The last thing I want to think about when eating is a man who drinks another man's ***.

I would think that many companies would have someone on staff whose
duties would include looking for mentions online.

Google long turned up hits on usenet, and we all know the group is
picked up by any number of websites. Sometimes that's the only way
I've found recipes I posted over time.

They would search google most likely. Google usenet archives.

Sure, I've seen instances of reps and stuff addressing things, searching
for comments on their products. I get companies trying to get me to put
them on one of my web pages.

And you have to put that in the subject line, most likely.

Ok based on whut you nut heads said on the same topic..I trusted too much as usual. My Tubby Toast was highly inferior when we move over to Thomas Muffins. I am getting upset since being led very far astray. It just aint fair. We used to be Oroweat types but give it up over the wood pulp scenario. My arrythmias is going out of control yet again. We have free legal.

Many years ago I used to be a member of a newsgroup for feline health. I
found it because I had a very sick cat, the vet couldn't find what was
wrong with him, and I was desperate. There was a rep from Hill's
Science Diet that constantly plugged their foods for every little
problem. Even if it was good pet food it would have turned me off, but
I already knew it was garbage.

My cat (lived to almost 20 years) wouldn't eat Science Diet. He only like
grocery store cat food. Meow Mix was his favorite dry food. As for the
meat food (that he got once a day), he only liked seafood varieties.

It's a small world and people love to gossip about everything and
anything. I remember a group I was on once had an employee of Kraft in
the group. Do I think a CEO is home at night surfing? Of course not, but
his elderly mother might be or his secretary or his mistress... :-)

~10 years ago I was in a diabetes group and my online name was Ahhah. I
remember someone replied to me once about my ahhh moment. I had never in
all my surfing run across another Ahh name and we all like to create
unique online names so I thought it was quite catchy when I created it.

Guess what? Today I am seeing Ahhah and Ahhh on every TV and Print
advertisement imaginable-saw it on Oprah's magazine cover the other day.
Coincidence or did someone from my group all those years ago have a
connection to an advertising company? I think I should get royalty
checks :-)

Most food companys that have a web site know very well about usenet. I
phone many food companys to ask questions and make comments, most want
to send coupons, as soon as they take my name they know exactly who I
am... most readily admit to reading our posts regularly. I suspect
some post here.

You'd be surprised at how many suggestions are implemented, just not
right away, they first need to have legal do their research.

We got them a few years ago. They were in the stores, then they weren't.

I think companies monitor all kinds of media, but put little emphasison
on what a handful of people say. If on the other hand thousands of
people were carping on social media about a new formulation of, say,
spices in a product, I think they would respond quite rapidly.

I would bet that most mfrs have someone constantly searching the 'net for any mention of their product. Probably get some of their best suggestions from Ye Publicke.

I participate in market research once in a while. Only once was I given
money to buy from a selection of (brand name) frozen food entrees then
complete a survey. Fairly painless but not something I'd normally purchase.

Other times I've been sent cat litter for Persia to test. Sometimes
I've tested cosmetic type things. Manufacturers do market research like
this all the time. That's partially how the determine whether to set up
a new production line.

Quite a few from what I can tell, but I have no way of knowing actual
numbers. I see participation from women and from gender neutral names
as we see here. Women are now a large portion of the car buyers, in
the 50% range..

Yes. I used to participate in focus groups, but they paid me cash and
they were pretty boring so I eventually stopped doing it. Hubby liked
the car focus groups he participated in, but he was interested in the
brand they discussed and they paid men 2-3 times more than they paid
women for women for our focus groups. Most of them were for brands
I'd never heard of, although one was Ore-Ida. The most interesting
one I did was about mattresses, but there were a lot of them and we
weren't given enough time to test them all plus fill out the forms for
each one.

Glad to hear they are being invited. The focus groups hubby
participated in were mostly, if not entirely, male.

I spent a working careere in market research. A lot of the time we
tested products to find out if a new formulation (read "cheaper") would
be detected by users. Frequently swapping a different variety or
source of palm oil in snack products, and for pantyhose, the
thread-count per inch. That kind of stuff.

I only dealt with cosmetics peripherally, but one I was related to was,
again, testing a slightly less expensive formulation.

Two low IQ internet newbies... I don't give my name on the phone as
Brooklyn1... only those who follow RFC regularly would know that
Sheldon Martin posts as Brooklyn1.

What have you done with Sheldon Katz? Did you cook him up into some lovely
meat pies?

Hmmm. I wonder whether NG discussions are covered by google
alerts. If so, perhaps we should have a "suggestions to
manufacturers" thread. Similarly, there could be a thread with
comments about... cookbooks. I say that because I have just been
going through a cookbook that is so poorly edited that I am going
through the whole thing again and taking notes, so all of the
relevant information will be findable.
