I had forgotten that I bought a set of these at Costco. Two graters and one
zester with the Microplane type design. My Microplanes aren't even all that old but they seem to have lost their sharpness. So I thought I would try these. And then I tried to open the package! And couldn't! One the back was a large perforated portion in almost the shape of a rectangle. There was a portion that looked like you either pushed it in with your thumb or pulled it out, neither of which I could do. I tried using a pair of scissors to run down the perforated parts but that did nothing. Was finally able to get a tiny piece of cardboard off at the thumb place and from there it was all scratching and tiny bits coming off in layers. Very poor package design! I eventually got the middle one out and then played hell getting the other two. Felt like taking it back to Costco and saying, "You get them out!" Couldn't cut the package with scissors either because it was all too thick. Gah! They do look like they will be good. Slightly larger than the Microplane and the largest one has large gratey things. Plus they have nice covers on them. I do worry because even though she isn't supposed to, my little cat sometimes gets on the counter and investigates things. Wouldn't want her to grate herself. |

It would only do it once. Cats on counters meant for food??!! Yuk!! -- Peter Brisbane Australia Success isn't so difficult. Just bite off more than you can chew, then go do it. |

Her mom never gets up there but she does do it occasionally. She will go anywhere so I have to keep my eye on her. My old cat did get on the counter but I never saw her up there. I only know that she did because I went on vacation once and had to leave her at home. I had arranged to board her but when I got to the cat boarding place, they were closed. Despite my having spoken to them about it and them telling me they'd be open after I got off of work. Nope. So I had to quickly arrange for people to come in and feed her and stuff. And I had left a bag of golf tees on the kitchen counter. When I got home, the tees were all over the place. So clearly she had gotten up there. Golf tees were her favorite toy. She'd run with them in her mouth, spit them out then bat them with her paw and chase them. |

I use my shears for a lot of things. When my daughter was young, I would cut up things like met or pierogies. I chop parsley by putting it in a cup and snipping it with the scissors. I also use them on cilantro and fresh chives. Even scallions. > |
