It was more like a really uninteresting dark beer. Bock is supposed to be heavy and rich and malty and this stuff was none of the above. It wasn't terrible, but they probably shouldn't be calling it bock, either. |

I love people who make fun of Anheuser-Busch and then go back to drinking their beloved Corona, Stella Artois, Beck's, Brahma, Alexander Keith's, Leffe, Hoegaarden, Spaten, Hasseröder, Löwenbräu, Skol, Quilmes, Harbin, Cass, Jupiler and Presidente -- all of which are owned by Anheuser-Busch Inbev. 8 ![]() -- Larry |

The first seven I cannot argue. Hoegaarden is a whole nuther animal. I bought some sixers last Summer and was in heaven. NOT non-descript mega swill. Spaten usta be pretty good, but I've not tried it of late. There can be no doubt the big Euro breweries have adopted US money grubbing methods, even if they are still independent. Pilsner Urquell trashed their ancient tar-lined wood barrels for stainless steel. Light watery mega swill is gaining ground in German pubs with young drinkers. Seems only fanatical beer crazy US microbreweries are resurecting and even extending old world brewing traditions. Granted, some to ludicrouse extents, but that's Americans. Over the top. Botton line, only US and Belgian brewers are balls-to-the-wall old timey beer crazy. |

Tho' Stella Artois is on a par with Bud and Corona, Beck's and Lowenbrau are not far from it, IMHO. The dark varieties of Lowenbrau and Beck's have some flavor. Hoegaarden is a wheat beer but Blue Moon is cheaper and better. -- Jim Silverton (Potomac, MD) Extraneous "not" in Reply To. |

It is the system touted by the right as "capitalism" . As we see from your example, the truth is that there isn't that much competition because the big guys are buying up all the competition and either shitting them down or pretending to compete against each other. |
