Bill Clinton. Once the president and soon to be first first husband.

2016 will be a heck of an election year. I'm hoping for a nice clean

Clinton was there because of the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund and the
opening of a new, modern medical facility. She was there because she
has been working for years on a Carbon Credit Program and goes several
times a year and takes some of her university students with her. This
time she has started the shade coffee project with the farmers. She
and the students (and my 12 yo grandson) will be advising and helping
about 50 farmers plant the coffee plants. My daughter and students
have to walk 4 hours each day to reach the farmer's village.. The
medical facility is part of a project to meet needs in this area.
Clinton gave a speech addressing concerns about restoring forests and
agricultural productivity. She was introduced to him and his team
because of her project. She says they actually talked quite a bit and
she was given many leads to pursue. So, I guess it was a happy chance
meeting. Grandson also met him and had his picture taken.

If you wanted to be both derogatory and sexist at the same time,
you could say that Hilary's not cooking a lot of dinners for him.

Again, that's so great! My mom has a huge interest in the country of
Haiti as she calls their Catholic parish her sister parish. Every bit
of fundraising her church does is for Haiti. She's very passionate
about it.

I wish I could be optimistic about Haiti but it seems to be pretty
much a lost cause. It is a doomed society.

Thanks for sharing, it sounds like she is doing her part to make the
world a better place! 8 hours of walking daily and then work too?

In her email she said that her students are having a life-changing
experience. Over the years, she has done similar in Benin (Peace
Corps days) and Brazil(doctoral days). She recognizes that the
population of the earth is ever growing and that those people have to
eat. She is very pragmatic. She wants to avoid clear cutting to farm
and then moving on when that poor soil no longer produces. So her
goal is to help people find crops that will work with poor soil and
provide income and at the same time perhaps enrich the soil the crop
grows on.
