Vons had a nice new product tonight. A 2 pound bag of lovely, sweet little
peppers in a rainbow of colors for 5 bucks. They are called sweet minis and look like jalapenos. They are so sweet and tasty I can hardly believe it. We're talking sugar sweet. So I whipped up a batch of cream cheese, garlic, EVOO and parmesan dip. I am munching on these cuties while sipping a Clos du Bois chardonnay. The two are a perfect compliment. |

And I was commenting on the delightful combination of this ONE chardonnay with the peppers and cream cheese. That is why I named it specifically. I have posted in the past I live in produce hell. I eat toast for breakfast 99.9% of the time. My snacks are almost always mashed potatoes, rice, popcorn or chips and beans. Twice a week I have a snack of some peanut butter filled pretzels and/or Cornnuts when dinner will be delayed. Not many. Just a few. Also, daughter and I have a bag of popcorn when we go to Target which is usually once a week. We share and we rarely finish the bag. My dinners vary and I rarely eat luch. Quite often I cook a pot of beans or soup to last the week. This week is different only because I have things to use up. Am going to make a turkey and wild rice casserole for tomorrow. Need to go assemble it. > > And I was commenting on the delightful combination of this ONE chardonnay > with the peppers and cream cheese. That is why I named it specifically. I do not find that the Safeway's here have the biggest or best selection of produce. However the one on Bay Farm Island on Alameda did have really good stuff. Huge produce selection and I'd often buy heirloom tomatoes there. I once spent a nice chunk of change on fancy produce and made two very artistic veggie platters for a party. And then? The woman who had invited me to her potluck wasn't even home! I never did learn for sure where she was but I did hear that gambling and excessive drinking were involved. So there we were, my daughter and I, walking back to my van with the veggie platters. My friend saw us. Said she was headed to her friend's house for dinner. Their husbands were away. Said they had a little extra food so rather than waste the veggies, we could go over there. The kids really did love the veggies but there were so many, we barely made a dent in them. Anyway... That was the last time I put any effort into food that I made for parties at that person's house. They did have parties most every weekend. |

I discovered a miracle combination of this one chardonnay with these peppers. If you had taste buds you'd know it was to die for. There is something about their flavor which pairs them perfectly with this Clos du Bois. Of which I am partaking of both again tonight. |

I only know of it because it was one of the few types of liquor that we could easily get. I won't say who got it but it came in flat bottle that apparently could easily be stuffed up into ones coat or shirt. |

I made a point to look for it at my local convenience store on the way home today. They still sell it and in 3 flavors that I saw. $3.69 for a bottle that looks like about 1.5 pint? There was no size (ounces) on the label. I've never tried it and at this point in my life probably never will. I still like Hamburger Helper though occasionally. ![]() G. |

Here's the review from bum wine. . . it's "majestic", man. http://bumwine.com/md2020.html "As majestic as the cascading waters of a drain pipe, MD 20/20 is bottled by the 20/20 wine company in Westfield, New York. This is a good place to start for the street wine rookie, but beware; this dog has a bite to back up its bark. MD Stands for Mogen David, and is affectionately called "Mad Dog 20/20". You'll find this beverage as often in a bum's nest as in the rock quarry where the high school kids sneak off to drink. This beverage is likely the most consumed by non-bums, but that doesn't stop any bums from drinking it! Our research indicates that MD 20/20 is the best of the bum wines at making you feel warm inside. Some test subjects report a slight numbing agent in MD 20/20, similar to the banana paste that the dentist puts in your mouth before injecting it with novocain. Anyone that can afford a dentist should steer clear of this disaster. Available in various nauseating tropical flavors that coat your whole system like bathtub scum, but only the full "Red Grape Wine" flavor packs the 18% wallop. Liquor stores are starting to be infiltrated by a 13% variety of MD 20/20 Red Grape. There is also a new "Blue Raspberry" flavor with "BLING BLING". Even the lowest functioning of bums will know not to get swindled out of 5%." Jim |

The only Hamburger Helper I ever liked was the Cheeseburger but I could get the same effect for cheaper with a store brand of mac and cheese in a box. The others? Bleh. My mom was overly fond of these things and also her electric skillet. So I was made to make this a lot for dinner. Just bleh. |
