I have these all ready to bake. We don't know yet if Angela will have dance
that night. Those cloggers are really dedicated! So I decided that I should have them ready. I like them better when cold anyway so this works for me. But... Even though I had checked the ingredients first to make sure that I had everything, I hadn't checked the amounts. Recipe called for half a pound of bacon to two cups of dried beans. That sounds like a lot! And I didn't have that much. I had two packages of the pre-cooked. One was the Albertson's brand and one was something else. Between the two I think there were maybe 5 oz. But... I'm sure the bacon weighed more before cooking. I put it all in but it looks to me like an awful lot of bacon. Must remember to put bacon on my list for Costco. Will have to portion it out for the freezer. Unless my husband is home, we can't eat that much. Oh and he will be home soon! Got a good job in this area. Well, partly in this area. Will also involve travel to two other states but... He will at least get to keep his residency here. And make it even more difficult for me to file our taxes, perhaps. Anyway... The dish is all ready to bake and it does taste good! I did add a little more black pepper and a little more ketchup than it called for. I believe that I had to do the same the last time I made it. And yes, I know, some here will say that tomatoes don't belong in BBB. But... I like the taste of this recipe and so does my daughter so that's all that matters. Subbed in the brown sugar Splenda for regular brown sugar and only used a touch of molasses to help lower the carb count a bit. So... Gonna bake them tomorrow and then I can just nuke daughter's portion for Easter. Got her three kinds of chicken from Costco. And then we'll have tossed salads. I probably won't have any additional meat with this meal. |

Do you pre cook your beans before baking? Most recipes call for pre cooked beans. There is one recipe by Emeril, that uses dry beans, not pre cooked. |

Usually on the 4th of July. They're a favorite food of mine but as a diabetic, not something that I eat often. Daughter has Chicken Piccata but of course she doesn't like it. I did get her her favorite olives for her salad though. Small Black Pearls. |

And their flavored black olives I thought I'd really > like, but they totally sucked. I don't believe they are. I grew up eating Lindsay. I can see a big difference! Although I won't turn down most olives, the Black Pearl have a much better texture to me. The Lindsay are pretty soft. One kind of olive I dislike is the jalapeño stuffed green. I don't know why. Because I love jalapenos. I just don't love those. And although I haven't tried them since I was a kid, I did not like the wrinkly Greek ones. They were just too bitter and tough. Also don't like any with too much garlic. But other than that I seem to like them all. That being said, I generally just buy the black pitted, the green stuffed or Kalamatta, pitted or non. I can get Black Pearls for cheap at Costco but they are the Extra Large. Daughter prefers the small. I can get those for cheap at the military commissary but it is sooo far away! And the one in Marysville, which is the closest one doesn't keep a lot of stock. So at best I can buy maybe 6 cans. So that's not saving me any money what with the price of gas. They don't have too much else that we buy that I can save money on. Soda isn't any cheaper. Produce is, but small selection. I've learned that they sell pink slime so I won't buy meat there. No whole wheat pasta. Whole grain, but not whole wheat. Cheese is cheap but again, limited selection and the only cheese that we use any quantity now is the Tillamoos which they don't sell. They mostly have brands that are not normally sold in this area. Cheap cereal but we don't eat much of that. Cheap juice boxes and other things that little kids might want. But not us. So we only go there every 2-3 years which is often enough to remind me why we don't go there more often! |
