Default Big Discounts on Many Shun Knives and Sets

I've had a nice set of wooden handled knives for maybe 20 years or so and
the handles are like brand new still. I've never soaked them or put into a
dishwasher. Anytime I use one, I hand wash it immediately after use. I don't
usually dry them off immediately but just put onto the rack to air dry.

Plastic handled knives go into soak or a dishwasher.

Thanks all - good to know we need to take better care of wooden handled
knives, and I think we will try investing in one or two and seeing if
we're up to the task here.

I have wooden handled knives I treat the same, only for more then 50
years... still like new. I wash all knives by hand (takes ten seconds
to wash a knife).

I'm surprised you had to be told such common sense.

There are two of us in my household who operate the dishwasher. Enough

No, this will be subtler - I will mention our conversation here on the
newsgroup and suggest we purchase a few good knives but only if we can
take good care of them, and we'll see where that goes. We may decide
just to keep buying knives with plastic handles for a few more years
until the kids are completely out of the house and life quiets down a
little - we shall see.

I do lament the gradual destruction of some knives I've had for 30
years, though - they weren't anything special but they did have wooden
handles.

Sounds like a good plan. If she likes the idea of nice knives I expect she
will be more than happy to take good care of them

We may decide

There is always that!!! Things change a lot once the kids are away)

Well when they are gone, just look forward to the time you can have good
stuff which you love. Just take care when the aforementioned kids come
home for a visit ... especially if they want to help ...

And one of the best methods for protecting wooden knife handles and
other wooden kitchenware is to apply a coat of beeswax.
