Years ago I decided to start fronting my own band, or play solo, so that I could play exactly what I wanted. When I was preparing the set list for the first gig of my own band I ended up with three sets of thirteen songs each. After I had the set list together I counted the Elmore James songs and there were thirteen in total. So 1/3 of the songs I chose were Elmore songs. I probably listen to Elmore James as much as anybody in that style, except maybe Hound Dog Taylor. Of the electric players Wolf, Elmore, Muddy and Hound Dog Taylor are probably my favorites. -Mike |

I don't remember the music (it was almost 40 years ago), but I do remember we had our best week ever at the concession stand. They even had to hire an extra guy at the door to turn people away. -- "It is easier for a rich man to enter heaven seated comfortably on the back of a camel, than it is for a poor man to pass through the eye of a needle." When the kids were little we went to some outdoor concerts at the U of M -- mid '70s. One of them I smell something funny as we're walking along -- "What's that smell?" Rob tells me to be quiet and I keep ragging on it. Finally tells me it's pot and to shut up about it. How would I know? Dylan got his start at the 10 O'Clock Scholar across the street from Al's in Dinkytown. A sin bin to the likes o' me during the late 50s Beatnik days. Same place John Koerner, Tony Glover, and Dave "Snaker" Ray started out. Just off campus of the U of MN. The 60 Minutes thing should be interesting. -- -Barb, <www.jamlady.eboard.com> Updated 11-29-04; Sam I Am! birthday telling; Thanksgiving 2004; Fanfare, Maestro, please. Ah, well, back in 1985 I was banging my head to Iron Maiden/Megadeth and playing AD&D with my drunken friends. Chicago and Mississippi style blues are my favorites though. Other than the airports, I've never been to Chicago. Years ago I decided I wanted to move away from Boston and was trying to decide between Chicago and New Orleans. I was basing my choice mainly on music, food and weather. New Orleans took two out of three so I ended up here. Weather was the biggest factor. I made the right choice. A very good CD of live Hound Dog Taylor stuff came out last year called "Release The Hound" I highly recommend it. -Mike |

I bet you wouldn't be too jealous around the first of August. The weather isn't exactly pleasant in the middle of the summer, but the rest of the year ain't bad. One of the things like about New Orleans is that it is difficult to find a bad meal when dining out. Not every place is great but most are at least good. I live around the corner from a place called Liuzza's by the Track that most would put into the dive category and it has wonderful food. I've never had a better bowl of gumbo than what they server at LBTT and believe it or not they make a pretty good Rueben. I guess thread is getting a bit back on topic. -Mike |
