Default Season brand tuna

For years I've bought only Tonno (meaning simply tuna, so it's not the brand
name, but only 'Tonno' is clearly printed on the label so I don't remember
the brand) or Trader Joe's brand. Both are very good. Cento is also about
as good.

But I just tried Season tuna. The fish is at least as good as the other 3,
but what stands out is that the oil is unmistakeably extra virgin. Really
good stuff.

Never heard of it. Did you pick it up at your local chain grocery?

Yeah, probably Stop-n-Shop or Pathmark or Waldbaum's.

They used to advertise Season sardines on the radio 20 years ago.

You can ask them to get it with the UPC:

0 70303 02491 1

All the good brands are $2.50 or $3 a can.

For $1 or $2 you can get Bumble Bee in 3-in-1-oil.

Even the Bumble Bee 'premium' in olive oil is $2 to $2.50 and it's not as
good as any of the above.

Season is pretty Northeast in distribution. The company primarily
markets Kosher products so it stands to reason they would not distribute
to areas where Kosher items are not much in demand.

There tiny sardines packed in olive oil are the best. Just smokey enough
and not too salty. Wish I could get them here.

You might do it the easy way, by the case from Amazon:
<http://tinyurl.com/cwheh7c>

I'm getting many of my repeat goodies, such as anchovies
and sardines and tuna, from them. Not bad prices and a
great saving of agravation in the supermarkets.

Aha... it's a Manischewitz product? It might be in a different part
of the grocery store then. Groceries around here tend to separate out
Kosher products and give them their own section.

The Season brand is excellent for canned fish... they have great
sardines.

How stupid... most all processed foods if permited are kosher... I've
never seen canned fin fish that isn't kosher.

Bull... if your store doesn't sell Season sardines then you live in a
poor neighborhood, season brand products are pricey.

We were raised on Crown Prince sardines, but our town only had 5K
people. I like Bar Harbor herring fillets, but I have not had them in
several years.

So, now this is boiling down to what socio-economic snob group shops
at your grocery store? At first, I thought it was a regular brand...
possibly regional. Then it turned out to be a Jewish product. I am
not Jewish and don't shop for kosher food, so BFD about whatever it is
he thinks just because I had never heard of it. I looked in both
sections of the store I was in today. The kosher section had Seasons
sardines and anchovies (on the bottom shelf, btw - so much for how la
tee dah he thinks it is), but no tuna and there was no Season brand in
the regular tuna section either.

I remember those ads - I had no idea they were part of Manischevitz
(sp?).

Prolly a local brand. I've never heard of them. The K Mart where I worked
sold the Polar brand. I don't eat sardines and never looked for them.

The ones that we sold came a variety of ways. Oil, tomato sauce, mustard...
I don't remember any water.

Water packed sardines have been around for years. I prefer them to
being packed in cheap oil.

I'd agree with you, if I bought sardines... as it is, I only buy tuna
that's been packed in water. Oil adds too much of an ick factor.
