Default Water

How's the water? I live in a town where the water is bad, and I live in
a building where lead pipes add to the problem. I haven't drank water
here in 40years. My cat has always shedded terribly, and vomits
periodically, which I attributed to hairballs. Recently I had cause to
take my cat to my parents to keep for a week. I couldnt believe how
healthy the cat became. No shedding no vomiting. So I filled up multiple
milk jugs of hometown water to bring back with me. I cannot believe what
a difference it has made-and it has helped my allergies as well!

Our water is fine here. But it wasn't on Cape Cod and it wasn't in NY.
Yeah, yeah, I've heard all about how clean it is in NY but... On Ft.
Wadsworth, the water comes out very cloudy. I wouldn't drink it. We bought
bottled.

But YES it matters. We sent our water off to the state univ for evaluation.
Much MUCH too much salt/sodium/whatever ... not to include assorted other
stuff. DH only drinks bottled water; so does our Yorkie who enjoys a
spoonful of Gatoraid Frost in the water dishes as does as the frequently
visiting pups who drain our pup water bowl to empty. Not to mention that
after the guests leave the watering bowls are empty except for the mud and
fluff. Don't know if they're having a drink or washing their feet. Might be
Catholics.

We have horrid-tasting water here. DH called Culligan and they
installed an RO system under our kitchen sink with a tube to the fridge
so that the ice cubes and water are also RO.

We rent the system from Culligan as 1)neither of us want to change those
filters ourselves, 2)the cost of renting includes 24/7 emergency service
and the cost of the filters and 3)we are still saving over the cost of
bottled water, which is also RO water.

When we travel in the RV we take jugs of our own RO water with us. This
is the only water we give to our dog while traveling.

That makes me wonder where you is dranked it since you aren't drink it
"there" in so long. Surely you manage to drunked water somehow!

I've been dranking bottled water since I met my wife some 20 years ago.
She lived in LA where the water was foul and though the water doesn't
*taste* so bad in Orange County, she didn't want to read how it was
toxic after 30 years later.

There's enough WWII military bases, airplane manufacturing plants and
anti-EPA "independent businessman free trade" polluters here to ruin
the aquafir for a zillion years--if it can be proven in a court of law,
which I believe is now against the law.

Till then, bottled water.

Why don't you get an under sink filter? Use that water for what you
ingest only.
They are not expensive. It would be worth every penny health wise for
both you and your cat.

An RO filter easily fits under the kitchen sink, easy to install (for
most homeowners it's DIY), and yes, they don't cost much.

The tap water here is just fine. Our water gets filtered through lava
rock. It takes decades to reach the aquafer. My guess is that most of
the mainland has not so great tap water and that the water quality will
not get any better. Most likely, everybody will be forced to use filters
and drink bottled water - that's the future.

The water in central FL was awful. Taking a shower made me nauseous. It
smelled like rotting fish water mixed with hot dog water. The tap water
had the same smell. The restaurants served water, tea, and coffee made
from the stuff. From what I saw, they were fine with it.

I re-found this when I went looking for the old SNL "Dessert Topping,
Floor Wax" skit I mentioned in another thread. I'd forgotten about
it:

(I thank <your favorite deity> our tap water is so good here.)

I've been very lucky to live in places where the water tasted just fine.
In Memphis the tap water came from artesian wells. I don't know where
the water in Saint Helena comes from but I can assure you it's not marsh
water. Straight out of the tap, it tastes just fine to me.

The only place I ever lived where we had to filter water was in
Thailand. My parents bought a big crock with a filter and added a few
drops of Clorox to it. (ugh!) That didn't work out for drinking. They
finally bought one of those water coolers (like you see in offices and
places of business) and had jugs of drinking water delivered.

I'm 98% sure the hotel provided bottled water. My brother simply didn't
think; he was thirsty and so drank tap water. It didn't turn out well.
I have no specific memory of brushing my teeth but I must have done so.
