![]() I found it in a cookbook. Here's a SLIGHTLY different version (an extra egg and extra walnuts, for one): http://www.duncanhines.com/recipes/s...1/whiskey-cake 1 Duncan Hines Yellow or Butter Cake Mix 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix 5 eggs ½ cup whiskey ½ cup milk ¾ cup oil 1 8 oz package chocolate chips 1 ½ cup whole walnuts (can be omitted) GLAZE 1 ½ cups whiskey 1 ½ sticks butter 1 cup sugar With electric mixer: beat eggs, whiskey, milk and oil together. Beat in pudding and cake mix. Mix in chocolate chips and walnuts. Pour into greased and floured pan (1 bundt pan or 2 loaf pans, or 5 mini loaf pans) Bake 350 degrees for appox. 1 hour – when tooth pick comes out clean. Heat glaze in sauce pan till bubbly and cook for 2 minutes. Pour over cakes (while still warm), remove while a little warm, if it cools too much, it may stick. (I didn't have a glaze recipe and I think it tastes OK without it.) What I wonder is: I don't really drink, so I just used some sour mash whiskey that I happened to have because someone didn't need it anymore and I like to have things on hand for guests. Would it have tasted significantly different had I used some other type of whiskey? Thanks. Lenona. |

As much as I love chocolate, they don't sound good in _this_ cake. |

The cake sounds a lot like a Derby Cake, which is similar to a Derby Pie but it's a cake instead. There's a company in Louisville called Mert's Cakes that makes them exclusively. They're ridiculously expensive though. I bought one from Kroger but only after it had been reduced to $5.00. The cake was very good but there's no way I would have paid full price for it. |
