My father grew up in a small town about 40 miles northwest of Toronto.
Every spring we had to make a pilgrimage there to pick morels. I went
on at least 10 of those trips and i still don't know that they taste
like because we never found any.

maybe finding mushrooms was the minor part of the endeavor.

The best spots are around the base or by the trunks of dead oak
trees. Here in Iowa, we find them after a very wet spell plus very
hot (unseasonable) weather. We may miss that this year, the weather
has been so odd. However, we are coming up on some good rainy days,
with temps supposed to be in high 70s and low 80s. That may be
enough, although this is late in the season for them.

I think they are a bit ahead of us, weatherwise.

Glad to hear yall will have a good crop. Despite the obvious down side of human animal harm..Forest/brush/grass fires are good for all kinds of stuff. The country around here gets way overgrazed...gets grown up with cedar and mesquite brush and cant go grass. Takes a big fire to knock all that stuff back into the pecking order of the flora. Some native prarie grass seeds cant germinate until they have been in a fire. Seems like maybe pine trees operate similar to that too. The consewers in this area like the ones with blue gills which grow out of fresh cow patties on sultry days. Forget what they call those right now.

I had fun looking for mushrooms when I was a kid. My dad used to take me whenever he's in for a hunt.
