Cali's barn kittens are doing fantastic... they were three weeks old
when she stopped nursing them and I brought them into my house, now
they are six weeks. With the Vet's approval they will go to their new
home a week from today... I will miss the little ragamuffins... Kali,

All so cute. I'm sure you will miss them. It would be very hard for me to
take care of kittens for weeks then see them go. Same with Janet and her
adoptions.

Been meaning to ask you (but you might have mentioned before).... that land
of high grass beyond your mowed giant yard....is that swamp area or just
more field with high grass? Is that part of your property too? Just
wondering.

Regardless, you have a very nice place there. Lot's of upkeep but very
nice.

G.

PS - your pics are always cool to see. :-D

That's not crust, that's their markings... they were born that way...
unlike sqwirtz who was born ugli and brain damaged.

That's my wildflower meadow. I rough mow it once a year at the end of
summer/beginning of fall, that keeps it healthy by sowing the seeds
from the flowers and covers them with mulched organic matter. It's
not a swamp but it does contain a large spring fed pond and a few
vernal ponds... the meadow is teaming with wild life and the water
fowl raise their young in the vernal ponds. I also mow a path around
the entire perimeter (about 3/4 mile).

Every time I see his yard, I keep thinking how it'd make great pasture
for some sheep... to hell with mowing

Cali's kittens are so adorable! Thanks for looking after them until
they have their new homes. You know, what you're doing is fostering.
It isn't an evil thing to do to not keep them.

And how did that goose get inside your mesh enclosed tree?

One of mine, Scarlett, came with calicivirus so she has that crusty
stuff all the time. Even now at 9 years old. I'm constantly cleaning
her eyes. No, she isn't showing symptoms of being sick, but she gets
the eye boogers and she also has tooth issues related to it. She had
her first tooth removed at 3 years old.

My older cat gets a weepy eye sporadically. Has happened maybe 4-5 times
since we got her. Always seems to be the same eye and always resolves
quickly. I think sometimes she gets a bit of cat litter in there or
something. I just swab it with saline and a cotton pad and then she is
fine. Doesn't seem to bother her.

I'm not fostering, I'm rescuing... big difference... they were born in
my barn and their mother quit nursing at three weeks, had I not taken
them into my house they would have died. They're now eight weeks and
will be going to my grands this coming Saturday... I'd keep them
myself only I already have five house cats and two barn cats. But no
matter what, i never would have considered taking them to a pound so
they could be *murdered*, I still would have raised them until I found
them a good home.

>And how did that goose get inside your mesh enclosed tree?

The fence doesn't go all the way to the ground... it's only there to
keep deer from browsing the tree, the deer can't go underneath the
fence... but that space allows me to mow. Yesterday I pulled the
weeds and placed fresh mulch. That's a slow growing tree but
eventually it will grow enough that I can remove the fence and the
deer won't be able to reach the lowest branches, perhaps another five
years. That's a rather rare and expensive tree, acer griseum, I paid
$900 three years ago.

Wow, I bet it's spectacular in the fall. I've never heard of this
maple before. It should be impressive when it's all grown up/1
