Nothing like that going on here. It's cold and threatening to rain! Gonna
make another pan of whole wheat monkey bread. Although Angela loved it,
someone else got to it and ate all but one piece. So it must be good!

I have a Mexican pot roast that I got from Costco. Did not realize until
after I got it home that I had bought it before and I was the only one who
liked it. It has a sauce that tastes like chili beans. Love that! Also
have some chicken that I cooked up on Sat. And will make some Mexican rice
and probably green beans.

Sounds mighty yummy. I smoked about a 10 lb Boston Butt which we made into pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw..tater salad..sweet beans..deviled eggs..cherry dump cake..brownies and several kinds of chips and dips. A bunch of beer..a little hooch etc. We also put out The Flag. Hope everybody had a great Memorial Day Celebration and Big Thanks to all of our Veterans and their families.

I dropped a couple of 5/8" thick by 4" square hunks of 10% fat ground
beef patties in a hot and slightly oiled black iron pan and fried them
to perfection. I dropped an American cheese slice on each at the
appropriate time. Before the cheese, I salted and peppered both sides.
Meanwhile I sliced two 3 1/2" square ciabatta rolls, lightly buttered
and grilled the sliced sides.
Once the ciabattas were browned a little, I removed them from the grill
and spread my secret sauce [mayo with enough yellow mustard to make the
secret sauce blond] on the grilled part of the rolls.
I applied 1/4" sliced dill pickle and 3/8" sliced tomato to my wife's
roll and lightly salted and peppered the tomato to boot.
I applied 1/4" sliced dill pickle and 3/8" sliced red onion to mine.
I served wrinkle cut Lay's potato chips with the burger and iced tea
with SweetNLow. Sadly, we've cut back on calories. We naturally prefer
whole milk. Really!
Since there are just the two of us, it was enough.
Lotta typin' for a lousy cheeseburger.

And now it's not a secret anymore, leo.

Nice menu! A crowd?
I grilled No-Name sirloin steaks on sale at Cub. Not bad except for the
pieces of the grill that stuck to the meat -- kinda gritty. :-) The
accompaniment was my homemade Nicer-Roni and it was mighty fine! I did
that in the basement on the induction cooker. Some good watermelon
rounded it out for sweet, followed by some fudgsicles later in the
evening. For me.

How long does it take to smoke a 10# roast? Is that something one does
the day before?

I'll be interested to see what bigwheel [and Marty- or any other
resident pork-pullers] says- but, for a 6PM meal, I'd put it in at 3pm
the day before so once it started to get close to temp, I'd be awake
anyway. With luck it would reach 190F around noon and I'd foil it
in a cooler until 3PM or so when I'd start to pull it.

If I wasn't lucky, and it didn't look like I'd get to 190 by 3-4, I'd
foil it an bring it in to the oven where I'd have more control over
the heat.

And if all that didn't look like fun for a holiday weekend, I'd just
pull some out of the freezer-- once pulled and smothered in juices, I
think it freezes perfectly well.

But the property smelling like a pork roast is a thing of beauty, too.

Just our family of four! I wanted a few days worth of leftovers, not to
mention my eight-year-old boys who eat like horses.

Was the watermelon from Cub? I miss Cub Foods. Ours went out of
business a year or two after we moved to the area. We have a very sweet
and juicy watermelon ourselves. I indulge Max, whose favorite food is
watermelon. We always buy our first watermelon of the summer for
Memorial Day.

It was and it is delicious. I don't want to mess with a melon right
now, so I bought precut. Not cheap, but delicious.
