I'm not sure what it was intended to be used for. It's very handy for skimming skum off of boiling chicken or a boiled roast, etc. Or from bones and vegetables wnen making stock. As you say, more "real estate". There are no name brand or markings on it. I don't remember where I got it but I've had it for a lot of years. I was one of those silly kids who started buying small household items when I was in my teens. I knew I'd be out on my own one day. And I liked to cook. So I'd buy kitchen stuff. No doubt I picked this strainer up around the the same time I bought my first collapsible veggie steamer. ![]() Hmmmm, we haven't had any "I'm moving out, what should I buy for the kitchen?" posts lately.
