Google groups has done a bit of upgrading.
They actually pay attention to reports of abuse now.
I have reported all these hateful posts from the racist troll.

I hope they just ban him completely from google groups.

Did you ever wonder how good Usenet could be if people HAD to use their
real names and traceable IP addresses?

The rfc group on Facebook can be a pleasure to read.

And I do use kill-files. I only have so much time and what some people
write just doesn't interest me... and I can live without the trolls. So
I pop them in the kill-file and the pile of drek that I have to sift
through is much smaller.

True but at least, since I use google, I won't have to look at it. ;-)

Unfortunately, I can only KF a poster if I open one of the
miscreant's posts.

Again, missing things. Who's the racist troll?

Do you have use of a killfile? Mine works well and I don't have to see it.

Is it not worth it just the once? You don't have to read it, just get the
address! I didn't read it when I got it.

If you missed the person spewing the N-word in their subject lines (in
multiple back to back posts) you're fortunate!

Evidently the troll is still posting. I reported a few and wondered why there isn't an option to flag ALL a posters thread at one time. Anybody listening at Google? They should have foreseen this. If there IS a blanket flag, I'd like to know about it.

Use a real newsreader rather than Google and you can block them
instantly. I could even do that when I was using Windows Mail.

Obviously they haven't taken any notice, because his posts are still
there on googlegroups.

Get yourself a proper newsreader with a killfile, then you won't see
them.

Really? I don't have to. Select the message, right click and then
select "add kill filter".

I always appreciate a term that used to be used when I first got
involved in usenet.... twit filter. Some of the abusers are jsut a
flash in the pan, some immature little ass who will get a cheap thrill
out of bombing a slew of groups with a mass of idiotic and offensive
posts and then disappear. The denizens of most kill files are there
because they are twits.

I can limit my kills or make them perpetual. For nym shifters et al
who are just an obvious flash in the pan, I limit the kill time after
their last post. That way, my KF stays relatively sleek.

I don't usually bother with them. The first time the idiots appear I
just figure it is some bored teen whose parents forgot to supervise
their computer time. I only bother to filter them if they reappear. If
people are stupid enough to respond to them I filter the topic. When
someone spends way too much time replying to trolls and that is all they
are doing, they join the trolls in the filter.

Oh, in the subject line. No, I just mark whatever looks like garbage as
read as soon as I open TBird. If I see that in a subject line it's gone
without a blink.
