That's a very good point, Julie. You have to find out what chip
scanners the majority of the shelters and vets use and get that brand.
I wish there was a single technology but so far there isn't. *sigh*

Yep, when people are going to be going in and out of my house (plumbers,
repairmen, etc.) I make sure Persia is shut in the bedroom. She's an
indoor cat. She usually hides when there are strangers in the house.
But that open door can be a bit of a temptation...

There is a dog rescuer that I follow on Facebook, mostly because he is
so brilliant and videotapes his rescues. He often finds the most
ingenious way to catch a scared dog and usually without being bitten.

In one case he took a large net on a pole and laid it flat on the ground
and it took him hours to coax a dog (with food) onto the net. While
distracting him with a cheeseburger piece, he *quickly* lifted the net
in one smooth motion and got the dog. Of course it was scared to death
and fighting, but in a short time he had that dog calmed down so much it
was licking his face. I was crying by the end of that video.

Shamrock won't hide, and he's the only one because he acts more like a
dog than a cat. He's the one I have to worry the most about. I didn't
have Bonnie or the littermates at that time, just Shadow and Shamrock,
and Shadow was sick so not likely to move much. Now, I keep workers
outside until I can get all of the cats in my room, which can be
difficult at times. The workers are always so patient about it, too.

Oh, and shout out to the Jam Lady! I guess we should have changed the
subject line to include cats in this thread since I know you don't want
to read about them. Sorry!

OMG. First a psychic, then a stone. Now a ring on a string. Gee, do
you have a pregnant friend? You could dangle it over her uterus.
Predict if it's going to be a boy or a girl. You have a 50/50 chance of
being right. I guess you don't realize how ridiculous you sound.

I'm sorry too, if she's truly lost her cats. But perhaps they'd be
better off in a house that isn't so wacky. I don't know what she feeds
her cats. Maybe they ran away on purpose. (sorry, that was mean)

No! There are waaaay too many wild animals out there.

Wouldn't need warm clothes in this weather. I have sat out there till 5:00

Would not be safe at all and my neighbors wouldn't keep an eye on me.

Yes, cats are masters of the quick escape.

Well, as long as she's with your sis, not much problem with the chip, but if
you didn't know the person you would need to file a change of ownership with
the chip company and pay a fee. It's well worth it.

Actually I *am* trying everything. As I said... I have been working with
not one but three pet detectives. Plus my vet. Plus Washington Wildlife.
I did *everything* they told me to and not to do. I didn't refuse any
suggestions. The only reason I didn't go to the shelters until today was
that we *have* seen Jazzy. And they are chipped! We did go today. Bali is
not there.

Only one of the pet detectives is long distance. The other two are in this
area. I don't know what SMH means.

I'm sorry. I'm really not trying to be difficult, I just get passionate
about finding lost pets because I can only imagine how I'd feel. I just
really feel bad for you, and for Bali and Jazzy.

I really hope all of the effort brings results!

I totally agree...
I have a kitty who loves the sound of paper tearing and then the wads tossed on the ground. I hear that cigarette cellophane has the same effect...

Don't worry about dumping on her. She lives for the attention.

She was given good advice and refused it? LOL.... that is what she does
best. That's why so many people just skip the advice and go right for
the dumping.

As I said. I have tried all the standard stuff and we still can't find
Bali. At this point I will try pretty much anything!

So... You'd hop about a 6 foot tall fence right into the blackberries? Oh
that would be smart. And my husband can't do it. He is on call 24/7 for
two weeks and they are not leaving him alone. He is lucky to get 8 hours of

I see a car in front of that house. Going to go see if they're home. I
still think not. Don't think it's their car but don't really know. Don't
know those people.

Mine are chipped but the shelters are telling me that the chips aren't
always effective.

That's not the problem. The problem is that they won't always scan.

Understood. I always have my vet scan them when they're in for their
yearly to make sure they are still scan-able.

The people who were not home finally are! And they do have a lot of
blackberries but if she is stuck in there, there would be no way I could get
to her. It's an interesting yard. There's like the regular grassy part.
Then a huge, wide, deep ditch that goes around from the back to the other
side. The stream cuts across that. There is a piece of wood across the
stream. But the blackberries are very thick and the ditch areas are all
full of tall weeds. I did see Jazzy jump from V's fence down into there
but... I don't see how she did. She would have landed smack into the
blackberries.

Those people have seen the big black cat that V's dad referred to and also a
big white cat. They said they are in their yard a lot and will look for
them. They seem like very nice people. I had just never met them before.
They are newlyweds.

What exactly was this advice that I refused? I drove today almost to
Marysville to a shelter and then to another one near my bro's house.
Someone could possibly have taken Bali to the one but Marysville? It's on
some isolated road too. Very doubtful that anyone would go all the way out
there. They had very few found cats and also very few listed as lost. So
big waste of time. That was the only thing I had not done because I figured
they were chipped and I do know that Jazzy is here.

Other than that, I have done every single thing that the professionals have
done including getting the wildlife cam. And not only did I get one, I got
two!

The guy didn't give me permission to camp in his yard. Plus it is all bumpy
with now about 2 ft. tall weeds. He doesn't bother to keep it up at all.
All kinds of bugs on the ground and wild animals. Probably more than one
raccoon. No way would I do that. Plus, I only saw Jazzy in that yard the
first night. I know the psychic led me to believe that is where she is.
But the pet detective I spoke to last night said that by about day 7 if she
really were stuck and injured, she would be calling for help. While she
does have a very tiny voice, there was no noise coming from there. And as I
said, I beat down and poked through most all of it. If she is in there at
all it would have to be so deep in there I couldn't get to her.

*sigh* She walked from one side to the other of her twice in a semi circle.
She went to either side and behind. Do all of these minute details really
matter to you? Or anyone else here? Mostly all I am getting is smart
remarks and then people telling me that I won't do what I am supposed to do.
Or something like that.

Why did you drive to the shelters? Couldn't you have just phoned them
and given them a descripton of the cats?

We've had a bear coming around our yard the past year or so. (And this
isn't bear country.) The critter cam finally gave us a positive ID.

Of course they are fixed. And chipped. And although I don't want them out
there and would prefer them to be home, Jazzy is very responsible and I
don't really worry so much about her. Bali is...well...stupid! Just flat
out stupid! Which is perhaps why Jazzy didn't want to let her go. I don't
know if cats can have mental deficiencies like people can, but she sure does
rather seem to be that way. Has already done more dumb things in her life
than I care to remember. Then again, she had two kinds of worms in her when
we got her. So perhaps as a kitten she was not so healthy and that affected
something. Dunno. Haven't even had the chance to check my wildlife cams
since I got back due to freezer problems.

I wouldn't write her off as stupid. This has nothing to do with the
problem at hand but one of my cats seems like she isn't all there, sort
of like she's "stupid" but she just lives in her own world. If she
didn't have it all going on up there she wouldn't have survived as a
feral before I accidentally trapped her. I was really after some stray
stinky males that were peeing all over the place and un-neutered male
pee stinks to high heaven. I wasn't able to keep them but I had the
means to have them neutered, so I was trying to do my part and have them
neutered and then release them. One of them was friendly and was
adopted by a friend. One of them trapped turned out to be a small
female which I thought was a kitten (she was just a runt because she
hasn't grown in size since 2004 except her belly) so I kept her. She is
a true feral. Or was, now even after all of this time she's a
semi-feral and I still can't pick her up unless I trick her, which I
have to do to get her to the vet. If she doesn't have to go to the vet
I don't force her. She's a wild thing.

Anyway, stupid doesn't mean the same with them. They just live in their
own little world sometimes.

Could you not camp out nearby, perhaps even in your own yard, anything
to get your scent and aura out there for her to sense?

It's a long shot, but what if?

Maybe Jazzy will sense you, come in, even lead you in the direction Bali is.

It's nerve wracking when cats do this.

I hate to mention this...but...does your neighbor dislike cats, or more
to the point your cats?

Something here just doesn't feel right.

Julie, I sincerely hope you get your cats back however you manage to do it.

Here's the weird thing! Were going to go to my mom's house to take the
remainder of the frozen food because my garage freezer quit working. Did
not go because of a tire issue. *sigh* When it rains it pours here! Did
toss out some food. Yes, I know somebody here will complain about that.
But it amounted to about $6 worth of food. Not a biggie. Cooked a big
dinner tonight and managed to get the rest in either the fridge or freezer.

Anyway... Had called my mom to explain why we did not come over and as I
was hanging up the phone, there was Jazzy on the deck. This time she
sauntered around and let us get close. Did not appear to be upset and did
not call out to us. Let Angela follow her next door. And where did she go?

Yep! To that exact spot in the blackberries where the psychic said that
Bali was and to where my pendulum told me on the map where she was. Angela
was convinced that she was in there.

It was getting dark. We got the best pole we have (actually a light bulb
remover) and three flashlights. I ripped out all of the old dead branches
and we cleared it out as best we could. I looked twice and Angela looked
once. Did not see or hear a thing. So all the more frustrating. But
perhaps if she still is in there somewhere, we loosened up enough stuff to
where she can get out.

Not sure where Jazzy went. Angela said it appeared that she went around the
front of the house. Must go now and put the wildlife cams back out.

No I could not and it says it right on their website. They are staffed with
all volunteers and can not give that information over the phone.

We have deer and coyote here too. Although not in our yard AFAIK. Got a
lot of raccoon pics though.

Not that I know of but I don't think she's an animal lover. I do think that
most people are pretty unobservant though. I tend to notice things that
others don't.

She works primarily with horses. There is a reason for that. You can
tell an awful lot about a horse by its body language and inter-action
with other horses and people, allowing you to make educated guesses
about its previous treatment, neuroses and fears. Pain and unseen
injuries are also easy enough to diagnose with an educated set of
hands.

I could do this and be right about 70% of the time, but I know people
that would *connect* with the horse about 90-95% of the time. Nothing
psychic about it though, just good rapport, good touch and lots of
experience.

I'm glad your sister's cat is happy. Some cats are "only" cats.

Another point about microchips: if you move or change phone numbers call
the company and give them your new info. When I had Persia chipped I
was given a tag with an ID number and their phone number. When we
moved, I called and had them update their database.

Many lost pets have been reunited with their owners (some *many* years
later) due to microchip technology. But having a chip is only useful if
the information is kept current.

That could be. I do love animals and while I don't necessarily dislike
horses, they are for sure not my favorite animal. So I don't know too much
about me. Had two friends as a kid who were horse crazy. I never
understood that. But apparently it is some sort of almost sexual thing
where they substitute the horse for a male.
