Default Blueberry pie

Blueberries are still on sale here....$1.88 per pint. So yesterday, I made
2 blueberry pies. First time ever. Turned out very good and I even bought
some vanilla ice cream this morning to finish them off. The ice cream
sounds like a good compliment to it. I was wishing for some yesterday.

That said, I will NEVER make another one. I rarely eat dessert food but if
I have it here, I can't resist. I actually skipped dinner yesterday and just
ate slice after slice of the darn pie. I ate 3/4 of one yesterday. geez.
I took a multi-vitamin just to help out my situation a bit.

I'm the same way with homemade apple pie. Best for me not to make either
from now on.

Vanilla is my favorite, but I have a friend that eats his with
chocolate. I may never covert, but it is pretty good that way.

I can see myself going through two pies quickly also. They are the
work of the diet devil!

Blueberries 99 cents/pint here @ Treasure Island in Chicago...I have been eating several pints per day...with yogurt or ice cream.

For frozen blueberries I just buy the frozen ones. They are a lot
cheaper than fresh, and their flash freezing is probably better than
most people can do with home freezers.I often see them on sale and stock
up on them. My wife eats them almost every day. She prefers the frozen
small northern berries to the big ones that are now more common.

I'm on that page with home made jam. I made plum with lemon a couple
of days ago and I've almost polished of an entire jar all by myself.
Made plum/peach last night, which is even tastier. I shudder to think
how fast I'll plow through a jar of that.

I'm the same way with treats. I find good homemade ones very hard to
resist.

I've started making pies in little canning jars and storing them in the
freezer.

http://www.ourbestbites.com/2009/09/...-pie-in-a-jar/

Then I can just bake a single serving and be done with it. Same with
cookies - I bake a few right away but portion the rest of the dough into
the freezer. For me it's much less temptation in the freezer and I only
pull out a treat occasionally this way.

I posted a couple of days ago about biscuits (cookies) that I had made
that day (Friday). I made 8 dozen, as I type there are none left. I
didn't eat them all though, that deed was done by the two men and two
teenage boys and a few to my two little grand-daughters.

Sour cherry, peach or rhubarb are my weakness. However, I just put an
apple pie in the oven. My nephew and his family are coming by this
afternoon. The last time they came I made a rhubarb coffee cake. My
little grand nephew was thrilled to sit down to cake but I saw the
sudden look of horror when he tasted the rhubarb. So we will go with
apples this time. We are cheating. My wife bought a frozen unbaked
apple pie at her church.

Just use the pastry base and pour a mixture of sour cream, sugar and eggs
over a layer of blueberries and bake.

One of our favourite pies is an Elmire peach pie. It has sour cream, a
little sugar, flour and an egg. Pour that into the crust, add the
peaches and bake.

Gary, you're about pie like a quiting smoker who stashes a carton of
Winstons in his sock drawer, an alcoholic who keeps a closet full of
mucatel for company... you need a 12 step program... "My name is Gary
and I'm a piehole!" LOL Next time you bake pies slice them into
sixths and freeze all but the hunk you're going to eat that day.

LOL! That's what I did with the 2nd pie....sliced and froze them
separately. I was pretty much "over" blueberry pie after polishing off the
1st one in less than 24 hours.
