Default Got my new pans.

I got the 4 quart Dutch Oven. It's a tad smaller than I envisioned it would
be but nice quality. It's all good though. Will be big enough to make
beans and will be a nice size for soup. Because my other Dutch Oven is
bigger, I always wind up making too much soup. So this will be good.

The metal baking pan came with a rack and a metal spatula. It's quite nice.

And today? I got my red stoneware dish from the Neely's from QVC. I
happened upon it while looking for something else. It's very deep and will
be the perfect size for lasagna. If you need any baking dishes, I suggest
that you look there. This is the larger one but they also had the square
and I think some other sizes. Come in a lot of colors and they appear to be
very nice. Plus they are on clearance for cheap! I should go use it now.
Going to roast some vegetables which I will probably kick myself for later.
It was supposed to be cool today. But it's not!

AND made in China -- how nice. Hope it doesn't explode on ya. I wonder why on clearance?

Do you have a url for the square one? I googled and google imaged for
"Neely's QVC square baking pan" and didn't turn it up. I figure if
it's not on the first page of results, it ain't there.

Do you have proof that it was made in China? It doesn't say anything like
that on there.

No. I don't see it. I didn't need a square one so didn't pay it much mind.
I did see it on there the other night when I had the show on briefly. I
only put that show on when there is nothing of interest elsewhere. I think
they made brownies in it though. Perhaps they sold out. There is also only
brown and red shown for the rectangular one that I bought and it came in a
whole slew of colors at the time I bought it. So it looks to me like they
update the website frequently and take off what is sold out.

Oops! It is made in China. I didn't see that when I ordered it.

Okay, thanks. Then it's not me. My GoogleFoo isn't the best so I
always doubt myself when I can't find something someone just posted
about.

Why do you hope that? You should hope for an explosion that renders the daughter permanently infertile, thereby improving the gene pool.

Bet you wouldn't say that if Bove had a son, you'd be wanting to
protect his semen for you to swallow... faggots like Bwrrryan

If there is such an explosion, we can only hope that it reaches your house
and that you are home at the time!

This is the one we bought, and we use it all the time. The size is 8 qt,
but it is shallow, has a large surface, which is perfect for sauteing
vegetables, browning cubes of beef, pork chops or chicken. We really
like it.

I merely went to qvc.com and looked for 'neely'.

Did you find the square lasagna dish? I only saw the rectangular one.

I wouldn't call that a Dutch oven, it's more of a brazier (or is that
brasiere-8qt is a nice size). That's one of my favorite pieces of
cookware, with its high sides it's great for frying with minimum
spatter.

I use something like that. 11 inch diameter but shallower;
4 1/2 quart. 3.5 mm copper. Had it and other stuff sent back
from Paris when we visited years ago. I was tipped off to
buy professional cookware when we visited.

I like that a lot. I've been looking at cookware to replace my very
old, but yet still very serviceable stainless sauce pans. Some of what
I've seen about the newer stainless makes me lean more toward hard
anodized aluminum. I have a anodized aluminum dutch oven that I really
like but the lid doesn't fit right. My mom gave it to me, and it works
well on my glass top stove, but I'm convinced the lid isn't the right
one for it. I haven't yet found a dutch oven I want to buy yet, but to
replace one of the sauce pans I use a lot I'm looking at either of these
two.

I like the depth of this one, not crazy about the straining lid though.

And this one

or tiny, http://preview.tinyurl.com/knw5mcm

Again, a straining lid. What's up with those? I wouldn't trust them not
to burn me, or the lid falling off if I'm not holding it tight enough
while straining.

I have to keep looking.

The straining lid pans have a locking mechanism. I love the pasta pot I
have (don't know the brand, sorry) that has a built-in strainer on the
lid. It locks in place, the water drains out, the contents of the pan
stay in. I've never been burned, but you do need to be mindful of steam.

I have the All-Clad version of that one and it's my favorite saucepan.
It's the diameter of a one quart, but it's really two quarts because
it's so tall. Got it on sale at BB&B. With the 20% off coupon, it
still wasn't cheap - but at least it wasn't as heart stoppingly
expensive as it could have been.

I either pour into a colander placed in the sink for short pasta or
fish long pasta out with a pasta fork.

Keep checking the Macy's ads. I bought a very nice Cuisinart brand ss
whatever they called it at the time (not a dutch oven - but looks
similar to that one) for only $20.

Macy's has good sales. We just increased our everyday set of dishes
to 12 place settings because they have Villeroy & Bosh on sale for 50%
off plus another 15%. We put it on a credit card that gives cash back
at the end of the year, so it worked out to be quite a deal.

Thanks. I just bought a 2 quart, so now I'm looking for 3.5 or 4 quart
sauce pan.

I pour all pasta into my aluminum colander (stands on 3 legs). Let it
drain for a few seconds, give it a shake and you're good to go.

My point was that it's an idea configuration. I love having a small
diameter with room for misjudgment of volume with the height. My 3
quart pot is a Windsor pan. I thought it was 3 qts but apparently
it's only 2.5. Whatever. It's big enough for me.
http://l3.zassets.com/images/z/1/7/2...-MULTIVIEW.jpg
I also have a regular straight sided 4 qt (with helping handle) from
my old Calpholon days that I use when I need more room.

If you have a Discover card and plan to shop via the internet, use
this web site. I just got 75% off new dishes between a store sale
with an added discount plus cash back from Discover.

The good stuff is a sandwich. Stainless steel for the interior surface.
Pure aluminum in the middle. This is the heat conduction and anti-hot-spot layer.
On the outside SS or structural aluminum alloy either anodized or not.
The aluminum sandwich filling should come up a couple inches on the sides.
Find out from the manufacturer exactly how their different lines are constructed.

Note that pure aluminum is not a structural material---too ductile.
It is the heat conduction property of the pure metal that makes
good cookware.

The Chinese were making stoneware pots while Europeans were still
banging stones together. I think they know how to do it by now.

I did that too but didn't find it.

I had one and hated it. I think I used it three times when the lid stuck on
and could not be removed. I had to throw it out. I can't remember what
happened the times prior, but the pasta wasn't good.

I mostly fish it out. Would only use the colander if I am making a ton,
like for a pasta salad.

I have never set foot in a Macy's. That's at the mall and I don't do malls
unless I have to. Plus I don't really need another Dutch oven.

They might. But I am not likely to ever go there.

Like I said, it wasn't a dutch oven - but it was just an example of
what you can find on sale there and I only mentioned it because you
said Becca's BB&B find was too expensive. Macy's has a web site, in
case you haven't figured it out yet and the deal I got on those dishes
with the additional 10% cash back was for online purchases only with a
Discover card.

Yes, I know they have a website and I have looked at it a few times but was
never tempted to buy anything they sell. I am just not big on most
department stores. And I have no Discover card. Had one years ago. Don't
need one now.

Your loss then, since you claim to be an internet shopper.

I am an Internet shopper. I do shop at a few department stores but I have
just never been very fond of Macy's. But it's not really a loss since I am
not in the market to buy any cooking stuff right now.
