I don't think I've ever clued into one with no sugar. But you're right... if they don't want sugar, then they can open a can of tomato paste. -- Food is an important part of a balanced diet. |

I forgot that I also put it in baked beans. But again, something I only make once or twice a year. |

Not sure though since I have switched back and forth between brands and recipes and such. I did once try the Walden Farms which either has no sweetener or an artificial one. Can't remember. It was the one like straight tomato past. I bought the Heinz One Carb when they made it. Not sure that they still do. Perhaps it was a little less sweet. Then switched to Hunt's (the one with sugar) only after America's Test Kitchen said that it had the best flavor even though Heinz is more popular. I can't really seem to tell a difference but perhaps I will buy both and try them side by side. I am not even sure at what point I began eating the stuff. I didn't eat it at all as a kid or young adult unless it was in something like baked beans or meatloaf. I do remember eating it when I worked at K Mart. We had little packets. I would eat two packets with an order of fries. Probably would have eaten more had it not been so difficult for me to open the packets and squeeze out the contents. So really I only had a tiny dab of the stuff on each fry. I guess it is hard for me to think back and compare since I didn't eat it when I was younger. |

I did eat it when I was younger, which made me think it might be my taste buds that had changed, then i got to wondering if the recipe had changed. I haven't heard of those other ones you mention. -- -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |

![]() "Ophelia" > wrote in message ... > Hmmm I've been wondering if it's just my taste buds changed. I know my > tastes have changed quite a lot over the years, but DH still loves his > ketchup. I have noticed that some things taste sickly sweet to me now. One such food is from Australia I think. Orgran pasta in tomato sauce in a can. It's gluten free. I bought it for Angela, mainly for an emergency meal at school. This after nobody being able to open her thermos on two separate occasions. Husband did get it open once but the second time, not even tools could get the blasted thing open. I sent a can in for the teacher and told her if need be to have her pop it open and eat it cold. That never happened and Angela refused to eat the few that we had here. So I told her I would eat it. It was fine and tasted like Spaghettios. Well that was one food that I ate very little of. I did have it maybe as an older child/young adult, perhaps purchased on sale or with a coupon. In my mind the Spaghettios weren't bad. I don't recall really liking them but I remember them as being not bad. Same for that canned spaghetti. Again, not something I ate often but it was cheap and once in a while I would pick up a can. But if the Orgran stuff tastes anything like that other canned pasta... Ppppyuck! Sickly, sickly sweet. I also remember canned ravioli being very sweet. I would eat it but I doctored it up with parmesan cheese and parsley. Why parsley? I don't know except that we didn't have a wide variety of seasonings in the house when I was a kid. Then I made ravioli from scratch. What a difference! And then I discovered the frozen stuff. It was almost as good as what I made from scratch and far easier. Then I discovered the refrigerated stuff. Not sure how long those things were on the market. Strange that. I guess in looking back we ate a rather limited diet at home. So perhaps those things did exist prior to my knowing of them. We ate a lot of canned and boxed stuff when I was growing up. The only frozen things I remember us having were carrot cake, turkey roll or slices, occasional ice cream or pie, poor boy sandwiches, turnovers, occasional pizza and of course TV dinners. We had those pretty much every week. Then when I was older I bought frozen bean burritos. |

We didn't have any processed stuff when I was growing up and I cook from scratch now. When I see the rows about the cheap rubbish put into processed foods ... but then they want cheap food. -- -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |
