Default Farro salad

Has anyone tried this salad or something similar?

http://www.marthastewart.com/284931/...ted-grapes-and

I saw her make it and it looked great! Just not sure if I can find Concord
grapes. Not sure I have ever seen them here. She did say that you could
use other types of grapes. I got the sherry vinegar today because I am not
sure if Winco will have it. I plan to make this some time next week and
also the rice salad that koko just posted.

My wife and I have come across that exact recipe a few time and we will
try it one day soon I hope!

Seems like it would be good for the fall. And it's so pretty!

I've only seen sherry vinegar at Sur La Table. Where did you buy it?
Not sure why so many recipes call for it when it's so danged scarce.

Where did you find the Farro? I had a heck of a time! Bob's Red Mill makes
it but nobody had it. Finally found it in bulk at Central Market.

I have not tried this but it doesn't contain fruit:

http://www.marthastewart.com/313938/...egetable-salad

And here's another. It does contain tomatoes which are technically a fruit
but it does sound good:

http://www.yummly.com/recipe/Farro_-...Stewart-198034

Kind of looks like Martha is partial to Farro!

Central Market! Got some on sale for $4.99. They had another brand for
$7.99. Might have had others. They have quite a nice selection of
vinegars.

I know that the two Central Markets are not related but they certainly seem
very similar from what I have seen online.

Mine looks like yours. I have seen Spelt. Don't think I have seemn Einkorn
except online. Martha kept going on and on about how Farro is low in
gluten. Really, what would that matter? You can either eat gluten or not.
And if you can't, it wouldn't matter if it is a low amount. I have never
tried it before so we'll see. But I'm thinking that the family will not be
so happy with me, foisting off two new recipes on them in a week. Hehehe.

I need to find me some adventurous eaters. The people I live with aren't
very.

I found it at my Food Coop. In fact, a lot of different vinegars are
available at my Food Coop. Check with one of your all natural or
health food stores..

I bought a bag of emmer farro at a farmer's market in 2006. The woman who
sold it to me was enthusiastic enough about the stuff to scare me just a
little bit. I also got a brief history of grain for free. Eating emmer
farro made me feel like Euell Gibbons. I can't remember how I prepared it.
It was not bad but not all that interesting and I couldn't figure out how
to fit it into my food universe and I never went back to that particular
farmer's market again so, apparently it wasn't meant to be. But I wouldn't
discourage anyone from giving it a try.

Thanks! Since it doesn't seem to be cheap and it's not common, I don't
think we'll eat it frequently. Unless I super love it or something.

I love barley in a soup but it doesn't love my blood sugar.

It's really weird, they all have a good selection but they seem to
favor champagne vinegar over sherry. Glad to hear it's a grocery
store item somewhere. I was losing faith.

I know you won't want to hear this, but Trader Joe's carries farro.
Call your local TJ outlet and see if they have it on the shelf.

I already found it. Stuff like that is generally not safe for us to eat
from TJs because of cross contamination.

IIRC, I think Raley's has it. I think Raley's might be called Nob Hill in
your area though.

Orzo perlato (barley) and Farro are very similar at a first glance.

Doesn't look like ours. Barely is rounder and more plump. I just looked at
mine again. Looks a lot like long grain brown rice.

It tastes to me, like slightly nutty wheat...I prefer barley.

I tried my Food Coop as a last resort and there it was. I'm beginning
to think that this type of store is more into 'cooking' and real cooks
-- if you know what I mean. They address a market of special food
interests.

I could probably find sherry vinegar at the meat market in town. It's
more than just a butcher shop. They carry a lot of hard to find and
imported items. I can't think of a thing I'd need to use sherry vinegar
for, though, since I don't eat salads.

Thanks Not something I've ever heard of.

I like barley and usually have some on hand. I use it for filler in
homemade soup.

I found the website for the farm where I got my farro that one time,
and glad to see they're still going strong - you might want to check
them out - they have a bunch of other whole grain products -

Ah! Full Circle Farms! We used to get their CSA boxes. But we don't any
more and I'm not even sure if they have a drop spot in this area now. My
health food store that was the drop spot is now closed. But they are also
at PCC and we are by there once or twice a week. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up, Cheri. No Nob Hill grocery store in town...
maybe 30-45 minutes away or on the other side of a bridge, but not
here. I may not have looked at Molly Stones yet, I'll take a look
there.
