Default New Farm Stand

I got word of a new farm stand that opened last week. Open Wednesday
thru Sunday. I'm told the selection is great: "summer squashes, a
variety of winter squashes, peppers, potatoes, cukes, eggplant,
tomatoes, wax beans, green beans. A good selection of mums
[chrysanthemums] and dried stuff for Fall arrangements."

Maybe this year I can find some decorative gourds and cornstalks to
arrange in the front entry-way.

Until now, I've been buying fresh local veggies at another nearby farm
stand. But they're only open on Friday & Saturday, which isn't always
convenient. Wednesday-Sunday is much better.

I'll check out the new farm stand tomorrow.

If you do get corn stalks, let me know what they cost. Each year I am
awed by what they are priced at here.

I get mine from my neighbour's cornfield. I am not surprised that
people will pay for corn stalks for Fall decorations but what amazes me
is the prices the charge. The last time I looked they were about $2
each. That's pretty hefty for something that a just a few years ago
would have been mulched and plowed under.

I haven't seen any yet, but $2 each is about what they were going for
here. When my father-in-law was alive, we joked that he could make
more money off the farm if he planted just for the corn stalks.

I'll let you know. They used to be very inexpensive.

They've been selling corn stalks for Fall decoration around here for
at least 30 years - and probably longer than that.
