Default Avast, me buckos!

In case you may have forgotten, it's annual Talk Like a Pirate Day!

There's even an official song, this year:

Eat some sea pie. Glug some grog. Sing some sea shanties. Gotta be
more fun than Valentines Day.

Who the heck knows how pirates talked, anyway? I guess I'd better get
out my copy of 'Treasure Island' (Robert Lewis Stevenson) and read it again.

Robert Newton, of course. The best film Long John Silver, ever.
Treasure Island ('50). Arggh!.....

Ah--the EASY response.

They talk the way the actors represented them in Treasure Island with
Billy Driscoll and Robert Newton, and the others in the Walt Disney
production(s) from the '50's.

Books leave us to infer what we will. A film (I love old films) is
someone's interpretation.

Pirate/privateer Jean Lafitte most likely spoke French and English.

I'd probably say "arggh" if someone ordered me to the crow's nest. I'm
terrified of heights. I don't climb ladders much less ones made of rope
strung to climb up the tall masts of a ship.
