Default Electric Grill

Just got my grill (thanks Sheldon) and will play with it today

What do you cook on yours. I have two large salmon fillets which I will
start with. What would you cook with it?

Bruschette! The classic ones are made with just bread, toasted and then
rubbed with garlic and dressed with some EVO oil and salt, but there's
plenty of options: with diced tomatoes, with anchovies, with cheese... One
of my favorite is toasted bread rubbed with a lot of garlic on both sides
and topped with a thin (as thin as I can) slice of gorgonzola, otherwise
some crumbled aged pecorino.

Do you 'grill' the bread and just put the other stuff on top?

Yes, after grilling/toasting the first step is rubbing with a garlic clove

Shel I think without going down to look If it isn't I'll report back

It isn't expensive and is only big enough for the two of us. Having used it
I shall get a bigger and better one for when family are here) Mine was
only around £16 but p+p from US brought it up to about £25. I've cooked
salmon, prawns, chops so far as well as some veg and it is superb! The
prawns were a revelation

Yeah, I wish it WERE available in the US; I'd get one tomorrow. It
looks fun as hell for a dinner party.

No only does it not come from the US, but they won't deliver it to the
US either--I tried. Oh well. I don't see anything remotely like it
(within $100 of the price) at Amazon in the USA.

I note an XL at Amazon.uk:

http://tinyurl.com/n248jww

While a similar model is priced surprisingly different in the US:

Ah well...

gtr .. why don't you order from Amazon uk? I often order from Amazon.com. I
have to pay a bit more postage but it works ok. I buy quite a lot like that
which is why I got confused about it coming from US.

Maybe he can have it delivered to you, then you can slap a new sticker
on the package and send it on it's way to the USA ($$ details to be
worked out offline, of course). He will have to get an adaptor to use
it, but so what.

Several years ago I bought a small Foreman grill for $20 for cooking for
one or two. It has worked perfectly for steaks, hamburgers and such,
and chicken. It cooks both sides at once, does it very quickly and is
easy to clean. I see Target still has it for $19. I'm not going to get
into an argument about terminology as to whether it is a griddle or a
grill but it has upper and lower non stick surfaces and the ready light
is accurate.

Please can I ask the dimensions when it is opened out? You got me thinking,
I don't have to have a large one, another smaller one along with the one I
already have ...

That's not the griddle I suggested but if you're happy with it that's
all that counts... I think this is the one I recommended:

Yes, that is a great piece of kit, but we wouldn't use the raclette. No
matter, you gave me the idea for an electric 'whatever' and I am very
pleased with what I have, so thank you for that

The voltage is different. Probably won't work properly in the USA.

I thought he said they won't ship/deliver that product to the USA.

An adapter and a voltage converter would be needed.

They don't change the voltage.

I tried that first with your model, then again with one of these
models. They won't deliver them. Why? I can't say. I've bought
DVD's, book and other smaller items. So I don't know why they won't
ship it.

I don't trust my coffee-maker not to burst into flame, so a UK gizmo
with an adapator. Besides, in the kitchen if we run the taster the
coffee-maker and the water-boiler water-boiler at the same time we pop
the fuse and have to switch it at the fuse box.

Thanks for the thought(s), though!

Now you can cook right at the table and spatter your table and guests with
hot grease. Never would use one...cook stoves are more practicable and
easier to clean.

You seem to have the idea that it's some kind of high-head broiler or
something. Clearly nobody is torching greasy food at high temperatures
at the table.

> Never would use one...cook stoves are more practicable and easier to clean.

Yes, cook stove are more practical as cook stoves. Have you never heard
of teppanyaki?

I'm sure the average household does not have a teppanyaki and
those electric grills wouldn't even come close to doing what
a teppanyaki does.

Of course they do what a teppanyaki does, that's why they are called
tappanyaki grills, they just aren't as large. One of the things they do
is not splatter you with a lot of grease, because they don't operate a
super-high heat and you don't put two inch steaks on them.\

But otherwise you're right on track.
