Ooh! I like this!

Would seriously consider buying one if they were cheap. Would probably only use it every one or two weeks, so not an essential kitchen gadget, but I like fresh flatbread. (Unlike rice cookers; ours gets used more than once per day on average.)

Dinner today will be skewered cumin/coriander/chilli lamb, served in flatbread with onion and tomato. One of these would be nice, popping out freshly cooked bread.

All kinds of people are on their Facebook page looking to buy one.
Apparently there is a demand.

I expect there will be. Not everyone likes to mess around with cooking
their own.

What do you make in it? I had a rice cooker and eventually when we stopped
eating rice I flung it.

I use it for a lot of things, sauteeing veggies, steaming veggies (mine has
the steamer that attaches) some packaged mixes that dh likes like stovetop
stuffing etc.

Mine was much simpler so I couldn't have done any of that. Sounds like a
useful bit of kit though

My DIL has one that doubles as something else, but I forget if it's a
slow cooker or a pressure cooker.... slow cooker seems more logical.

I think it's a great idea if it frees the housewife from having to make
this bread every day. It could be as revolutionary and life changing for
the Indian family as the automatic rice cookers was for Asian families.
The two greatest technological advances for our family when I was
growing up was the automatic rice cooker and color TV.

It works great for packaged mixes. I've used it for stuffing mixes. It's
very helpful when making a bunch of dishes at a time. Sometimes, I wish
I had two.

I use it for instant mashed potatoes. You can also boil potatoes and
eggs, warm up soups, steam veggies, and even make cornbread. For the
cornbread, I use a small packaged mix in my small rice cooker. I have to
finish if off in the microwave for about a minute. When I make it, it
puzzles my wife because it doesn't look like I'm cooking anything at
all. The cornbread appears like magic out of nowhere.

Our small rice cooker is also great for single packages of instant
ramen. Every college student that dorms should learn how to use one of
these cheap devices.

We eat rice but I never considered a cooker. Just have no room for such
devices.

You think the company didn't do their market research? The market
potential is in the millions.

We use our rice cooker, a 5 cup version, on a daily basis. It it the
second most used appliance here, behind only the electric jug.

Only if you want to live on Ramen noodles. Personally, I'll pass!

Nothing if you don't eat Roti at home. On the other hand, if Roti is a
staple in your diet, whole different ball game.

Don't know about the colour TV so much but the automatic rice cooker is

A rice cooker has no appeal for me, it's very rare I eat plain white
rice, and when I do an ordinary pot can't be improved upon, no way, no
how.

I'm the same. I guess a rice cooker would be handy if you made it
often though. As for me, a small sauce pan cooks it perfectly every
time. I've never had a problem doing it that way.

The comment I responded to was;

| The two greatest technological advances for our family when I
| was growing up was the automatic rice cooker and color TV.

Did I suggest that you need to watch rice cook?
Did I suggest that I watched rice cook?

I don't know about you but I use a rice cooker to cook rice. By its very
nature it's automatic so it doesn't need to be watched. When it's
cooked, it turns to "keep warm" mode. That's why I like the rice cooker,
it's a set and forget device.

My neighbors have 3 rice cookers of different sizes.. it makes sense
because they eat rice at every meal.

Very few people that live on Ramen noodles want to live on Ramen
noodles. OTOH, I'm one of those guys that, left to my own devices, would
just wear and eat the same thing every day. Not having to make mundane
choices would be fine with me.

My guess is that you eat rice infrequently and don't cook rice several
times a day every single day.

My mother taught me to cook rice at an early age. We used to have a
family rice pot. It was a cast aluminum pot of very unusual design, with
an extended rim to prevent boil over. These purpose made pots don't seem
to be made anymore - the automatic rice cooker has wiped out the market
for them, I guess. I don't like making rice "manually." It's kind of a
drag. We're just a bunch of lazy Asians. :-)

My wife uses the rice cooker all the time but she will occasionally cook
the rice in a pot, probably a few times a year. Possibly it's some
particular effect she's after. The rice cooker seems to produce a more
consistent rice and, what's more, even I can do a good job with it. ;-)

Our rice cooker is only used to cook the rice, never to store it for any
length of time. I don't mind reheated rice the next day but my wife
always prefers fresh. I use a microwave for reheating first sprinkling a
little water on the rice to moisten it a little.

I had to look "pilaf" up. We never prepare rice in that manner
preferring SE Asian styles.

Yes, with the saute feature it can get a nice crisp crust on the stuffing
which hubby likes. I didn't think I would really use one, but I find that I
use it for a whole lot of things, very handy to me.

So is the rice cooker, it's not very big, really no bigger than my
saucepans. It sit's on top of my toaster oven and is very handy. It has a
steamer for veggies that you can attach, you can saute, boil, all kinds of
things plus it's a breeze to clean, but to each their own.
