Default Halloween dinner?

Do you make anything special for Halloween dinner? I once heard a woman
talking about how she made spaghetti and meatballs every year for Halloween.
And the way she said it, she made it sound like it was something spooky. I
didn't quite get it!

I always see those cutesy things in magazines for kids. I think I did
something like that once but my daughter wasn't much into cutesy food.

I tend to make something that is quick to fix and can be eaten pretty much
at room temp or with the hands. Like a sandwich because... Those darned
Trick Or Treaters tend to come right at dinner time and it can be difficult
to eat while running back and forth to the door.

I haven't decided yet what I will make. Maybe pizza. Daughter won't eat
pizza but I have some prebaked crusts. Perhaps she can have a plain crust
with some hummus or something.

Anyone else got any plans?

She has more imagination. It is supposed to be like brains in a bowl.
We go out for dinner on Halloween. There are no little kids in the
neighborhood any more and the ones that do come around are teenagers
from other areas looking for loot. Just below us is a street with
about 25 houses and we see cars coming from Rhode Island (about 10
miles away) just to take advantage since their own area is more rural
and few houses.

Last night was a Halloween night in town and the stores had things for
the kids and the library had some activities.

No. I do not define my life through silly costume parties based on heretic customs. The neighborhood kids come "trick or treating" I do not turn on the lights as I do not want the little beggars stumbling about on my property for a friggin' Snickers bar. I don't think the retards that make up fake "graves" (complete with blood, abortioned embyoes, and reaching from the grave limbs!) are in good taste, so yeah, the Sheldon troll and a bunch of idiots hanging out here have no life. Oh wait, I think I will go as Julie's husband. That should only entail being a fat-ass know-nothing with a pension. And the most delicate Miss Julie should be allergic. What a ****ing scam. You ****ing pig.

No. I would think that anyone wanting to be a future human would not acknowledge your disguting ploy for attention.

Not me.

If I made anything with a Halloween theme to it - it went to school on
the day the kids had the Halloween parade, back in elementary school.

I live in one of those "destination" areas where trick r treaters go,
so back when the nephews and nieces had small children, I'd have a
Halloween party and the family would come over here. I never made
stupid stuff - just things that were easy to grab and go... hot dogs,
sausages - baked beans and salads to round out the plate for the
people who stayed in the house. Dessert was pumpkin and apple pies.
Fall pies that are easy to make. It seemed like a lot of people would
bring other dishes, but it wasn't planned or expected - they just did
it. I don't remember any details - I just remember it was eaten and
everyone had a great time.

She's a vegetarian who has wheat and dairy intolerances. Plus I think
she's allergic to tomatoes.

I have a meatloaf in the freezer. We will have that with some easy
sides, maybe baked potatoes and carrot sticks.

The stores do that here too.

I didn't like it either when younger. I will get a craving for it now once
in a while, perhaps because I need the tomato. I wouldn't touch pizza as
child. Then after I discovered taco pizza, would eat that and also the bacon
pizza at Pizza Haven. As an adult, I realized that cheese pizza isn't super
yucky. Not a favorite food though.

Well she is a vegetarian. No longer has wheat or dairy intolerances and is
not allergic to any foods. But she doesn't like tomatoes in general. She
will eat salsa, pico gallo and ketchup.

The only time I ever cooked on Halloween was at a party at someone
else's house. I brought over appetizers I'd already assembled and
partially frozen. The host graciously provided baking sheets and put
them in the oven for me. This would have been in the mid-90's. Similar
to this:

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/rye-bread-party-pizzas/

The only meat I used was Italian sausage. I don't remember using
Velveeta but I probably did. LOL

I *do* remember the woman who gave me the recipe used blue cheese. When
I tried that (at home, pre-party test run), I found the blue cheese too
overwhelming. At any rate, everyone loved the appetizers. I can't
recall ever cooking for Halloween any time after that.

Just interesting. I've never known anyone that doesn't like pizza
until you.

Keep in mind though that pizza toppings are flexible. I know you like
beans and onions and maybe tomatoes and can eat that? Have you ever
considered making a bean type pizza? You could do a thin crust too if
the carbs are an issue?

They were not flexible as a child. We only ever had sausage and black
olives because that was what my parents liked. I didn't discover any other
pizza until we went to Pizza Haven. They had a pizza bar and I took some
other kinds. What I discovered is that I do not like meat on most pizza and
I hate hot olives.

Pizza Haven is also the place that made the *good* taco pizza. Just like
you described but also cheese, salsa, lettuce and tortilla chips. I also
made this at home but it was a Bisquick recipe so the crust left something
to be desired.

These days a few places make taco pizza but it's not the same. No beans.
Just taco meat. And one place puts Ranch dressing on it. Blech.

I do make a hummus pizza which I like. Spread the baked crust with hummus
then top with onions, tomatoes and Kalamatta olives. I put cucumbers for
daughter. She didn't like it. Seems she doesn't like hummus on or in
stuff. Only as a dip for veggies.

She is just not big on bread stuff. I wasn't either and still am not so
much. Don't know why.

I did once get a pizza that she said she liked. It had soy cheese. I think
I have bought it twice. But she never wanted it again.
