Have you tried wget? Quite handy for both ftp and html depos.

They do but a browser isn't as efficient or as reliable as a dedicated
FTP client.

I use FileZilla here and it's pretty schmick! It also works in a manner
similar to many of the file managers I've used in the past.

Most browsers will be hosed if there is even a microsecond disconnect
or interruption. wget will go back, reconnect, and continue from the
EXACT bit where it left off for as many times as it takes. Doesn't
quit util the dwnld is complete. I'll use a browser for small files,
but really big files (600-700Mb) I invoke wget. Very handy. There's
a Windows version, too.

Might be useful for troublesome sites that don't have an FTP option.
I'll have to look into it.
