Default Removing Core from Plantain

What is the recommended way to remove the core from a very green banana
plantain? I tried to just peel it off and that is impossible. I tried to
cut around the skin, but that is very time consuming.

I end up cutting the plantain into three inch sections and then using this
apple corer on it:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That works but leaves a lot of the core behind because the corer is too
thin. I end up going back at the remaining parts with the corer. If I
could find a corer with a larger diameter that might work. Any other ideas
to try?

To peel a green plantain boil it for one minute then peel with a knife. -aem

I hold a knife with a quarter inch sticking out from my fingers then slice the skin three times length wise. then the peel comes apart in 3 sections.

at first I thought this was going to be along the lines of the old joke: I
hate bananas - once you peel them and throw away the bone, there's nothing
to them.
