When I was a kid in the country, mushrooms came in cans or you picked them and people died every single year eating mushrooms they'd picked. My world was rocked when we moved to the big city and we could buy cultivated mushrooms at the grocery store. I went from hating them (canned mushrooms were slimy) to absolutely loving them... and I still do. -- Food is an important part of a balanced diet. |

I don't want to take any chances with wild mushrooms because I don't know much about them, except that you can get really sick from them. When I was a kid we made annual pilgrimages to the small town in which my father had grown up under the pretense of hunting for morels. He loved them and knew where to go to pick them..... but we never found any. I think it was just an excuse to visit the town of his youth. |
