Default International marmalade competiition for charity.. ping Barb Schaller

I'm going to have a go at this

http://www.dalemainmarmaladeawards.co.uk/cms/awards.php

quote

"Our Homemade Marmalade Competition
Sponsored by Mackays and Paddington Bear

The Amateur Category for home-made marmalades has grown from 50 jars to
nearly 2,000 jars in 2013, posted to us from all over the World,
including The British Virgin Islands, Japan, America, Canada, Spain,
France, Gibraltar, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Australia, New Zealand and
Switzerland, Alaska, Austria and South Africa.

All marmalade makers readily rise to a challenge and enter their
marmalades into whichever class catches their eye ? from traditional
Seville to Merry (with alcohol), Interesting Additions, Political,
Children's, Man-made, Organic, Marmalade Hall of Fame, Family Tree,
International etc ? NEW for 2014 two extra categories have been added
bringing the total to 13 different categories from which to choose
from."
To date the Marmalade Awards have raised £120,000 for Hospice At
Home charity. The 2014 charities will be Hospice at Home, Action Medical
Research and Marie Curie Scotland.

All the details are on the website

From the way that my late S-I-L was treated by "Hospice at Home" during the
late stages of breast cancer, I intend to send a donation to this charity.
The care she received was incredible.

Hmm. Thank you for thinking of me but I've never made marmalade. I'm
not a fan. :-\

What a tragic way to go. I can't bear to think of that disappointed
old man waiting and hoping in vain for 93 years.

When I was a kid in the country, mushrooms came in cans or you picked
them and people died every single year eating mushrooms they'd picked.
My world was rocked when we moved to the big city and we could buy
cultivated mushrooms at the grocery store. I went from hating them
(canned mushrooms were slimy) to absolutely loving them... and I still
do.

Does one need mushrooms with a very thick skin?
Are there Seville mushrooms?

I love mushrooms and will gladly eat any that have been commercially
grown or distributed. I don't want to take any chances with wild
mushrooms because I don't know much about them, except that you can get
really sick from them.

When I was a kid we made annual pilgrimages to the small town in which
my father had grown up under the pretense of hunting for morels. He
loved them and knew where to go to pick them..... but we never found
any. I think it was just an excuse to visit the town of his youth.
