Default Does this thing count as toast?

Let me cut to the chase. I basically put some butter and apple butter on the
toasted side of a one-side-toasted piece of bread. It was delicious. But I'm
not sure whether to call it toast. It seems more like a casserole to me.

Haven't any great liking for it but some people use it in a toasted
cheese sandwich.

LOL Seems I was buying it for some sort of pork roast or ribs recipe.
As I said, I have lost the recipe. I still have the jar of apple
butter. I'll find some way to use it, probably cooking pork.

Growing up, we just spread it on toast like jam. I wouldn't think of using
it any other way!

I've tried to like apple butter, but I don't. Have you ever heard of
pear honey? I ran across a recipe for that the other day and have
been thinking about making it. I'm hesitant because of my dislike of
apple butter. I'd hate to put all that time into making something
that I end up not liking in the end.

I just thought of another thing. It could be combined with powdered
mustard for a marinade for grilled ham steak. I've never tried it but
apple sauce also works.

I can appreciate that sf. I could never get into apple butter either.

Thanks! I never read anything about someone not liking it, so I was
beginning to think I was the only one. I don't dislike it the way I
dislike nutmeg (can detect it in minute quantities and think it ruins
every savory dish it's used in); I simply don't like it, won't buy it
and turn it down, if offered.

That's the first time I've heard of that combination, it would
probably make a good ham glaze too!

I can see that working. Apple sauce goes well with roast pork or
sausages. I have never had it with ham, but when my wife makes glazed
peameal she simmers it in apple juice before and baking it with the
glaze. The glaze is with mustard, brown sugar and a bit of flour.

My wife has bought it a few times but she doesn't eat toast so it never
gets eaten. I end up throwing the jar out after a few years and another
one seems to mysteriously show up and, like its predecessor, goes uneaten.

Nutmeg, OTOH can be good in very small doses... very small doses. It has
to be freshly grated. IMO is is very easy to overdo the eggnog.

I bent to that theory and bought nutmeg that needed grating and it was
just as bad as the powdered... possibly worse, but it sure wasn't
better.
