Here it is folks! Seen at Winco today. I was alone so apologize for the
bad pic. Angela takes good pics. I do not. And I was in a super hurry to take it as there was an employee near me. I have found that taking pics in stores is generally frowned on. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y22...psbb1515c5.jpg The can did not say who it was made by but is distributed by Altapac Trading out of CA, I think Los Angeles. They do have a website but it seems to be down at the moment. So for less than $10, this meal could be yours! ![]() |

As for the price, could be one of two things. Although Winco is usually the cheapest place to get most things, it isn't cheap for everything. Slimfast beverages for instance. I think they likely have the highest price on those of anyone in the area. Also, I think food prices in general are much higher here than they are there. |

It's an ignorant antiquated management thing (not like they get real talent in grocery store managers). 98% of the time when I take a picture in a store it's because I think a friend of mine might want the item, i.e. it's bringing them more business. If they give me crap I blacklist the store for a year (or more) and send an email to their corporate office explaining why. |

YIKES! I do remember when it was cheaper than buying a whole chicken. I was working (my husband wasn't). Living paycheck to paycheck. That canned whole chicken was cheaper than buying a whole chicken. It worked just fine for chicken & dumplings. I wouldn't buy it these days, but it did serve its' purpose circa 1982. ![]() still selling it, much less buying it. Jill |

![]() "T" > wrote in message ... > Why on earth would anyone buy canned chicken when you can get the whole > bird or parts thereof in any city? It is meant to be kept as emergency food. We live in the part of the country where we can get snowed in and unable to get out for a week or so at a time. No, it doesn't happen very often. But a few winter's ago, it happened twice. There was a mere period of not quite 24 hours between the two bouts of snow that crippled the cities here. It was mayhem at the grocery store. We had all gone low on food or at least fresh food. And we all stormed the grocery stores at the same time. They were low on stock too with some trucks not being able to get there. This was at Christmas and New Year's. We had to put off our extended family Christmas until 2 weeks after the date. I can't even remember what I served for Christmas dinner that year but it wasn't what I normally would have. It was catch as catch can at the grocery store. See something even remotely edible to your family and toss it in your cart before someone else gets it! I can still remember Angela's face when the only festive thing we had in our bags, broke. It was a bottle of sparkling cider. My husband was in a hurry to get in the house and hurled the bags down onto the garage floor. Oh what a mess that cider made! And it was the worst shopping trip ever. I didn't think he would ever get the bags to the car. The ice was still thick across the parking lot. One thing we don't do much of here is de-ice or plow. I picked that particular store because I had issues in the past with ice in other parking lots. I knew that they cleaned the parking lot on a regular basis so assumed they would be good to de-ice. Nope. The state claims the chemicals and salt are bad for the environment. Anyway... His feet kept slipping and slipping. He kept falling down and he dropped a potato out of the bag and retrieved it sooo many times we finally shouted, "Leave the potato!" What should have been perhaps a 1 hour shopping trip turned into more like a 3 hour trip. Now I wouldn't personally keep a chicken like that. I do keep canned chicken though. On the street where I grew up, when the power went out (and it did so at least once a year), it often stayed out for a week. I learned to keep lots of candles and batteries and extra food that didn't require cooking. Thankfully they have corrected whatever the electrical problem was so now when my mom loses power, it might be only for a few hours. And she loses it less often than I do here, about 9 miles from her! |

I buy canned white meat chicken at Sam's Club. DH likes chicken salad
and it's convenient. It's also convenient when we are in the RV to make some chicken salad for lunches while we are on the road. I generally rinse it in a strainer with cold water to get the sodium out of it. It tastes fresher that way. -- Janet Wilder Way-the-heck-south Texas Spelling doesn't count. But if you use coupons and can combine them with a sale, you can get those for very little. Perhaps 25 cents for a small can. Or in some cases free. |

Almost every week all the stores have the same things on sale for about the same price. I suspect they cooperate with each other. I think perhaps they say they don't allow it to prevent perverts from trying to take upskirt pics and such. We used to get those from time to time when I worked in stores. But I could be wrong. And yeah, with cell phones everywhere it would be hard to stop. |

I don't usually even look at the whole ad but might skim it. I do look for good prices on soda pop. Of course I have tons now and now is when the prices dropped even further. For some reason, Safeway has been doing super good prices but... I have to really stock up then because for the next week or two, nobody will have good prices on the type/style that I want. |

Espionage for the competition would be clandestine and higher up the ladder, not shelf level at the grocery store. They openly shop the competition with electronic equipment in hand. In fact, there are apps that will shop the competition for you and all it requires is a picture of the bar code. I just want a picture of the product to remind myself about or show someone else what I saw, which is something I did that here just the other day with a type of Speculoos cookie I found on the shelf. -- Food is an important part of a balanced diet. |
