Pizza sauce poll:
What kind of pizza sauce do you use?

1. Canned pizza sauce (e.g. contadina or Pastene California pizza sauce)
2. Pizza sauce in a small jar (a little more expensive)
3. Sauce in a big jar (e.g. Bertolli)
4. You make your own
5. You know where the fountain of pizza sauce is

I heard some people freeze it in ice cube trays. Do you do that?

Mix my own. "Make" might be overstating it. For me: tomato paste, tomato sauce (ketchup), dried oregano, garlic, sambal oelek. For my son: tomato paste, oregano, garlic. Sometimes just plain tomato paste, with some sliced garlic and chilli as toppings.

I like to use tomato pesto too.

buy tomatoes when they're 50 cents a pound

cook them down and make sauce out of that

cheapest & best

in a pinch I go to the pizzeria down the hill and get about 8 oz for $2

I sometimes make my own from canned tomatoes and a spoonful of tomato
paste... but usually I use the sauce Sam's Club sells in #10 cans
(approx 1 gallon) for $3.97. I freeze the extra sauce.
I put all the effort of making pizza into the crust and try to simplify
everything else -- but the crust is pretty easy too, with practice.

I don't like drippy pizza so these days I'll spread plain tomato paste
on the dough and then season it with salt, pepper, dehydrated garlic,
and Italian seasonings. Parks Kimchee Sauce also make a great fiery
pizza sauce. The important part for me is to use a concentrated
paste-like material that's not watery.

Bertolli marinara, or tomato and basil.

I'm on the verge of trying to make my own. I bought the ingredients.
But I bought fresh basil and didn't realize it was not supposed to be
refrigerated, and it went weird and I got discouraged. Kroger keeps in
the section with mushroom, spinach bags, etc. that is cooled and I got
confused... I'm going to regroup and try it soon.

Maybe tonight. Would be a good project. I will probably get
brick-brats, but I bought some of the little can basil in the Spice
Island section. After my fiasco with fresh, I thought I would try that
first.

Whenever I make spaghetti sauce, I keep a little extra, on the side, to use the next time I make pizza. It is home made with onions, peppers and a good mount of garlic, sometimes it has hamburger and/or sausage.

I make my own from tomatoes that I have grown. Onions, garlic and
peppers also come from my garden.

Either 1, 2 or 4. Husband doesn't like much sauce on his. I do like to dip
mine in extra sauce but still, a big jar is too much. I can't remember the
brand but QFC sells it and it is $8.97 for a small jar. Damned good stuff
but too expensive. Pizza to me should be a cheap meal. Often I just open a
can of tomato sauce and use that, adding a little oregano to it.

Dei Fratelli is our favorite brand of store bought tomato goodness. Packed
by Hirzel a Midwest company based in Toledo, OH. Great website at
www.deifratelli.com
Pizza sauce comes in 15 oz. can which does a x-lg pizza just fine. Sauce is
All Natural with no artificial additives or preservatives and gluten free if
that is a concern.
Sodium is 230mg per serving (about 7 per can) for those who need that info.
Living in the hinterlands of North Central Ohio we make our own pizza often
and this sauce is on it.

I make a Russian pizza. I get No Name brand of Hamburger Helper; Stroganoff, and top pizza with that.

I don't use any pizza sauce. I brush the crust with olive oil (often
with chopped garlic cooked into it), add a small amount of shredded cheese,
and then quite a lot of diced tomatoes (salted to remove excess moisture).
When the pizza comes out of the oven, I sprinkle on minced parsley and basil.
(If the garlic isn't cooked into the oil, it's mixed raw with the tomatoes.)

Husband uses homemade spaghetti sauce.

I don't use premade either, but then I enjoy cooking too much)

I agree wholeheartedly.
The overwhelming part of the posts is about USAn kitchen utilities
or USAn supermarkets.
The few remaining recipes are mostly disgusting.

I like a "white sauce" or just olive oil and garlic.
Don't do much red sauce on pizza anymore and if it do I usually just buy Contadina.

I don't grow my own tomatoes but I try to get local ones. And I don't store
them in the fridge.

Yeah, have to watch out for the moisture in diced tomatoes. Nobody likes
soggy pizza.
