I honestly don't know what we paid for this as an appetizer back in the
day. My best girlfriend and I would go out to have a couple of drinks
and a snack, listen to some music. We almost always split a basket of
battered fried mushrooms. They probably cost about $3.

Sometimes we ordered deep fried cheese, another appetizer. It came with
a nice marinara sauce. The cheese was a combination of mozzarella and
sharp cheddar, breaded then fried. Cubes, not "cheese sticks". Also
not mostly breading. Dreadfully hot (ouch! Must let it cool before
taking a bite.) Delicious.

The restaurant hasn't been there for decades. I don't even remember the
name of it.

Yes, it sounds like an appetizer, not a dinner. And I agree--pimento cheese
sounds more like a sandwich than a filling for mushrooms. I love stuffed
mushrooms as an appetizer (usually shared with others at the table), but not
with the description given here.

These aren't even stuffed mushrooms. That, I might be able to imagine.
But no, you're supposed to dip them in pimento cheese sauce. It just
doesn't sound right.

Deep fried and dipped in cheese? I was under the impression this
community catered primarily to older, retired folks. They didn't make it
to retirement by dipping deep fried foods into cheese.

I guess you haven't figured out yet they are clueless.

But I have to say, it isn't their job to provide a "geriatric diet".
This isn't a nursing home, you know. LOL It's still up to the
individual whether to order the fried whatever or something else.

I just thought it was odd they'd offer this as a "dinner special" when
it appears to be an appetizer.

I've seen special appetizers on the dinner menu, but usually accompanied
by some special entree also. If this was the only offering, it would be
strange.

I didn't expect them to offer a geriatric diet but, as I suggested, that
is not type of food that active seniors eat. If they eat stuff like that
they tend not to make it to that age and stage.

I didn't realize it was a dinner special. Just deep fried mushrooms and
cheese sauce??? For a main dish???
