They don't steal, you actually let them do it by saying yes to something or other... probably words to the effect of "Do you want to link up with your friends on Linkedin". I know I've bypassed address book snooping when signing up for other things, so I'm positive that's the Linkedin takes the same tack. I don't care enough to sign up again just to get their exact wording to post here. Be aware of what the various phrases mean and they won't be able to spam your friends because you haven't inadvertently given them permission to do it. -- I take life with a grain of salt, a slice of lemon and a shot of tequila |

Sometimes I wonder... I just still don't understand why you are doing what you are doing. I asked Angela and she gave me rather a dumb look. She said she knows how to do it, never does it and can't see why anyone would. So... *shrugs* Clearly you and I are using FB for two different reasons. I use mine mainly to catch up quickly on what/how friends and family are doing. I don't send a lot of messages and I don't reply to a lot of things. I do "like" some posts and I share some things like cute cat pics or things that I think are funny or interesting. I rarely change my status. |

I get that about Linkedin and other sites. I'm talking about random spam sent to everyone in your address book that is not from these sites. Not like it seems to be password protected. I think it's probably pretty easy for someone to grab your address book so I don't have people in there, never mind with their phone numbers/home address. nancy |

Let's say you like coupons etc. and you also like Product X. A friend of yours sees a a post by Product X's company about a special deal or coupon link. Your friend can tag you in a reply to Product X's post, which will then show up on your timeline and/or email you (if you have email notifications set up) that you were tagged in so and so's post. Your friend does this to let you know of Product X's coupon link. You say you use FB to get communications from companies. Don't you ever see those replies to their posts with just a clickable name and nothing else written by that poster? That's tagging. -- jinx the minx |

Your friend does this to let you know of Product X's > coupon link. Well... I can assure you that I wouldn't want *that* to happen! I hate it when people think I might be interested in something and I'm not. As for coupons, I am pretty much up on those and don't need any friend's help in finding them. I have all sort of couponing apps and such. > > You say you use FB to get communications from companies. I don't know what you are talking about, about a reply with a clickable name and nothing else. I don't think I've ever seen such a thing. |

Not really new but wasn't around when I first signed up for FB. Back then you could only tag in photos and I quit doing that because some people were asking others not to do it. I did check all through my FB last night and didn't see a thing that was just a clickable name so still don't know what that is but... I also don't know what the "communication from companies" is. I don't really communicate with most companies. I do the My Coke Rewards and they are now doing Beta which goes through FB and Twitter but for the most part I am unwilling to do what they want me to do to get rewards. |
