All the reviews are posted by people who ate at least a bag (don't know the size, I'm guessing about 8 oz.) of these "sugarless" candies. Sorry, if you eat a bag of *any* candy you're liable to have gastric upset. I do get the point. Anyone else remember the articles a few years back about unpleasant side effects after people ate a bunch of "fat-free" potato chips? Olestra, was it? My point is: don't over-indulge. And don't mess with original recipes. :-) Jill |

I know people have issues when they chew sugarless gum. I think Sorbitol is the culprit there, not sure. nancy |

But any more than that? You won't want to be around me. |

Any of the "ols". Maltitol, Mannitol, Sorbitol, Xylitol, I'm sure there are others. The packages will say that it can have a laxative effect but nobody bothers to read that. I tried to warn my parents after they were sucking down SF Werthers like crazy. My mom refused to believe me, partly because the print on the bag was too tiny for her to read. But then I got a call later that night! ![]() Apparently she forgot what happened to my dad some years ago and he did too. There was a sugar free cough drop called Nice! He had a sore throat or cough or something and took quite a few. Got sick to his stomach, went to the Dr. and the Dr. reviewed what all he had eaten that day. Then told him to stop eating those and take something with sugar in it instead. Problem solved. |

I refuse it since I read about it: Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome: Anal irritation; diarrhea; gas; nausea; stomach cramps. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur while taking sorbitol: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); continuing constipation; dizziness; rectal bleeding; sudden weight gain; unusual swelling; vomiting; weakness. I have never had any of those problems with it but I didn't want any either ![]() -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |

I never really saw the point, but it stopped me buying so called 'sugar free' foods. It is surprising, given the problems it can cause, that it is allowed to be added to foods! -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |

The stories have reached the "Can you top this...??" variety and I'm nicely surprised at the humor. Bathroom humor, I suppose, but very funny nonetheless.
