Default My Dinner From the Club 3/15/2014

I ordered it to go (as usual).

Seafood En Croute

Scallops, Shrimp, Crab, Salmon
And Spinach Baked in a Puff Pastry
$23.00

The also threw a couple of steamed broccoli florets and a small
half-cooked carrot in the to-go container, just to make it look like I
really got some food. LOL

Actually, the seafood en croute tastes very good.

Yeah, I took a picture of it in the to-go container when I got home. I
forgot to mention they set it on a bed of rice pilaf. I guess they
realized it doesn't look like a heck of a lot of food in one of those
containers. <G>

Ah, no. I'm sure it would have looked like more food if it had been
presented on one of their smallish square black plates. But the seafood
en croute was tasty!

Is the new chef an improvement over the old one? I think you said in one of
your messages that the former chef was leaving.

I can't imagine that Jill would still be hungry after eating it.

He hasn't left yet. He's here through the end of the month. No word on
who the new chef de cuisine will be. Or if there will be menu changes.
But of course, every new chef wants to try out their own skills and
change menus. We'll see.

Have you determined whether the problem with the chef or the management?
One of my nephews is a chef and has had major disagreements with his
bosses over the menu. For instance, at one place where they charged
$16.95 for a cheeseburger, he insisted that they use real cheese, but
the bus insisted on kraft plastic.

I have no idea how to determine that. I don't get to talk with the
chefs. Management already knows I question everything.

I did say the seafood en croute was tasty. A small portion, but tasty.

One thing I have never seen is cheap plastic cheese at the Club.

I'm glad it tasted good... but for $23, you think they would have better
take-out materials. There are some pretty nice plastic plates with
clear, hard plastic covers that they could use. SOmething like this is
available in different sizes:

That would give them an excuse to jack the prices up!

As much as I dislike throwing away food, the rice pilaf was apparently
made from a prefab mix. The "vegetables" in it were obviously
dehydrated *bits* of onion, celery and red bell pepper. So I tossed the
rice (and the stupid half-cooked carrot) and ate the rest.

Well, I've gotta use that assessment somehow. I ran into one of my
"seasonal" neighbors when I went to pick up my order. He and/or his
wife are only here about three, maybe four months out of the year. His
wife stayed in Maryland (so far) this trip so he's been eating at the
Club every day. He said, "Gotta get some benefit out of that
assessment! At least you have all year to do it." Then he surprised me
by asking, "Do you know what all these fees are *for*? B. told me we
have to pay $2000." I laughed. I doubt many of the residents knows
exactly what all the fees are for.

But yes, I do know about that particular annual assessment. It's for
island maintenance. They repaved the streets last year. Reinforced the
causeway bridge. Did some major tree trimming. And someone has to mow
all those median strips and clean up plant debris in the streets after
one of our many thunderstorms. He said, "Oh, and we're getting new
mail boxes!" Yep, although we agreed there is nothing wrong with our
mail boxes. LOL

Frankly, I was surprised he didn't know this. I guess his wife is in
charge of the finances. No wonder she was ****ed when, shortly after he
got here last month, he bought a near-mint 1965 Mustang without telling her!

The food looks and sounds very good, Jill. Probably plenty for a
satisfying meal too? They should buy some smaller to-go containers so
it won't look so empty.
