and mashed potatoes.

Who/what are you talking about Sheldon? Something on your television?
I hacve a sure cure for that little problem!! One of my degrees is in
Elexctrical Engineering, and the engineers who designed and built your
TV included a wonderful tool! It's called a "power switch"! Simply
turn that idiot box OFF and that irritating "phoney baloney ugli
Popeye bi-atch" will vanish! ;-)

How would you know? Fried chicken (done properly) isn't greasy. I
don't see how biscuits, gravy and mashed potatoes could be greasy, either.

How would anyone know, they've tried it of course... and I cooked
tons... I'm sure much more than you have.

Of course you wouldn't see how fried skin-on breaded chicken would be
nasty, you're used to it and obviously love it. Even when deep fried
at the proper temperature breading sucks up lots of greaze. I don't
like any breaded fried food, the most I'll do is lean meat lightly
dusted with seasoned flour and there won't be any skin involved under
the flour. I don't like breaded pork chops either, breading makes it
difficult to see where to trim away the fat... if someome serves me
breaded food I scrape the breading off. The worst are breaded shrimp,
those bags of awful frozen breaded shrimp are more greazy breading
than shrimp... blech... breaded shrimp don't even taste like shrimp.
And when that breading is scraped off the shrimp is dwarf-like... and
even my cats won't eat that shrimp. I know a lot of people love fried
breading but I despise it... it's really just a cheap unhealthy way of
making food portions larger.

I enjoy TV, I just wish some of those stupid ads didn't play... that's
why I DVR many shows but I'm not going to DVR certain shows like the
news, what's the point of watching the news hours/days later, or other
live shows, even lots of shows that are taped are no longer current
seen later. And if I DVR too many shows I won't have time to watch
the current shows and the DVRed shows... I don't DVR many shows nor do
I watch a lot of TV... mostly I have the news on but don't watch much,
mostly I listen to it like background noise.. mostly I'm in the
kitchen but have no TV in there. Even during warm months when I'm
mostly outdoors during the day I still leave the TV on for my cats.
There are probably TVs that can automatically edit out the ads, but I
enjoy many of the ads, like the AFLAC duck, and those with big
bazoomed babes... I'll stop cooking and head into the next room when I
hear those Soma ads.

And everyone has different likes and dislikes, you don't like TV, I
do, but I don't have a radio plugged in, I don't like listening to
music, I don't use my car radio very often. Today's music isn't
music, and the oldies can be boring after hearing them over and over
for so many years. Actually you're the idiot box whose power switch I
have turned off... the only time I open your posts is in error when
I'm zipping through a thread I'm interested in, like this one that I
posted to.

I have never had gravy or mashed potatoes at Popeye's. Red-beans-and-
rice are the preferred side. And the biscuits are delicious.

I'm surprised Popeye's has gravy. And, the only thing they have I dislike
is their biscuits -- a waste of calories IMHO. So I can totally see the
point of making your own.

I will stop by Popeye's on Tuesdays for their leg and thigh special
while my wife makes a green salad. But if I have leftover mashed potatoes
from Sunday or Monday, I will nuke them for a side dish.

I always DVR the Noon News which is the local news and watch it at around
1:00...without commercials.

The OP was talking about Popeye's Fried Chicken. Have you been there?
You're bitching about a *commercial*.

No, I rarely eat fried chicken. I buy it once or twice a year from the
Publix "deli"/freshly prepared food area. I don't sit around eating
fried chicken.

I don't buy the mashed potatoes, just the gravy, and homemade biscuits are
pretty easy.

1/2 cup flour, all purpose is fine, but cake flour is ideal.
1 t baking powder
1/4 t salt
1-1/2 T butter, Really cold butter, cut in with a vegetable peeler, and
worked in with a fork, not hands is best.
4 T milk. A little more milk makes the dough harder to work with, but the
bicuits are moister.

Yeild: 3 biscuits

Or people like me, who only when they are on sale for a ridiculously
good price, stock up on a good supply of cheap almost pure animal
protein for a good price that I can flavor any way I like! Most
specifically my curried chicken or spicy BBQ sauce and garlic
flavored!
