My mom's poodle hadda be put down due to kidney failure. I'd been buying
her ground turkey to get her to eat anything. It worked for a while, until she reached critical no eat. Now, I'm left with 3 lbs of ground turkey. I hate to toss it, but not sure what to do with it. I guess I could make chili, but..... I made some spaghetti with one lb, but I can no longer eat stuff with a red sauce, like pizza, spaghetts, etc. Got any ideas? nb |

Well, there are some uses for ground turkey that might work. Hmmm, let me look up a post from the wayback machine. Circa 2002: Turkey Burgers "Indienne" (citation: Cooking Light magazine in the late 1980's) 16 oz. lean ground turkey 2 green onions, minced 1-2 tsp. Tabasco pepper sauce (to taste) 2 tsp. soy sauce 1/4 tsp. ground ginger 1 tsp. sesame oil 4 wholewheat buns, lightly toasted In mixing bowl, combine turkey, minced green onion, soy, ginger, Tabasco and sesame oil. Form mixture into 4 thick patties (about 3/4 inch thick; they will shrink). Oven-broil or grill 5-6 inches from heat about 5 minutes on each side, pressing lightly when turning. Serve on toasted wheat buns with your choice of toppings. They were actually very tasty. That's saying a lot from someone who has never been a big fan of ground turkey. ![]() Jill |

Ground turkey was a huge deal in the 1980's low-fat craze. I still see a lot of ground turkey but I don't see anyone buying it. As for uses, ground turkey definitely needs seasoning and spices to jack up the taste. My 2¢. nb says he can't eat red sauce. Maybe a sort of Swedish meatball treatment would fit the bill. ![]() Jill |

I've made good pork sausage with about 25% turkey. Would work that way with meatloaf too. |

Ground turkey meatloaf is good. I always add some dry beef base to it to bump up the richness of the taste. USe the dry beef base instead of salt. |

I make burgers with ground turkey. Add lots of chopped onion, finely chopped celery, some ketchup to add moisture, some finely chopped red pepper, ground black pepper. Serve on a toasted bun with avocado slices and tomato.
Sorry to hear about the dog. Very sad to lose old friends of four legs. |

I wouldn't grind my own, ground turky is disgusting, even smells awful while cooking. And the preground at stores is loaded with skin, fat, and who knows what. Someone invited me for a lasagna dinner, when I tasted it I thought it was terible so asked and was told it's made with turkey, I didn't eat another bite. |

We like it in a loaf, for taco salad and things like that. When I make it in a loaf, I cover the loaf pan with foil and it stays nice and moist. Cheri |
