Default I bought a Refrigerator Today

Thanks everyone for all your helpful posts. We stopped at Home Depot
today and I looked at the Samsung fridges. Then I looked at a
Whirlpool. I liked the Whirlpool much better.

Had a chat with the saleslady, who was very knowledgeable and had many
certificates of merit by her desk, plus one for quite a few years of
working in that department at Home Depot.

I told her that my on line research had taken me to Samsung and
Whirlpool as the ones in my price range that had good reviews. I asked
her opinion and she favored the Whirlpool. She said that parts are more
easily available and service is better. I did see negative comments
about Samsung's service on line.

We bought a beautiful Whirlpool with lots of storage space and an ice
maker in the freezer. No more in the door junk to break itself or my
knee caps!

Just to make sure nothing breaks for 5 years we got a service contract
as well. It will be the best money I ever wasted as it will avert the
evil eye.

HD will deliver and set up the new one on May 1. I put the old one on
Craig's List for a good price, but if it doesn't sell by May 1, we'll
let HD take it away for free.

I feel we paid a very fair price for the Whirlpool. There was a
manufacturers discount and then another discount from HD on top of that.
Can't wait for the Whirlpool to come.

Sounds like a good one. We bought the five year service contract too, peace
of mind.

it may not be too late, but if you go to the Post Office and ask for a
Change of Address Kit, it usually contains a 10% off at Home Depot and
also good at Lowe's. Home Depot may still honor it

Thanks. I already got 10% off at Home Depot on top of the
manufacturer's 10% discount. I doubt if HD would honor another discount.

Congratulations on your new fridge! As a life-long renter I've never

Thank you for the good wishes. I have guaranteed 5 good years by

Hee. She probably means she rents her home rather than owns.
But, yes, you can rent appliances and furniture.

People over here don't pack up entire kitchens right down to the walls
when they move. Rental homes and apartments often come with
appliances and they are included in the cost of the rent.

Maybe I missed it, but did you get a side by side, or freezer above or below?

That's why there are different styles. I wouldn't
consider a refrigerator that wasn't side by side.

Definitely not my style. From day it was delivered, I've called it the

I much prefer a side-by-side to the freezer on top model I bought in the
mid 1980's. It was a Norge. It was a great fridge. Lasted 18 years.

Fast forward to the old side-by-side in this kitchen. More space than
the freezer on top. Much easier to organize. I'd definitely not say no
to another side-by-side.

I never had one until I moved into this house and that's what was
here. I took right to it even though it was a pretty small one.

Is your side-by-side fridge on one side, freezer on the other? Mines a
french door type with all fridge on top and the freezer like a chest
freezer on the bottom. Difference between this and a chest freezer is
that it has pull out shelves.

We have a S x S now, but next one will be French door. The freezer on
top makes little sense as we have a freezer too.

I like the looks of those french door models, too.

I wholeheartedly agree. I would rather have had a top freezer than a
side by side. The one that's being replaced is a side by side which I
lived with (kvetching regularly) for 9 long and terrible years. :-)

I can appreciate that. I had one. The freezer is too narrow to put keep
anything big. Narrower shelves translates to a lot of waste space.

My wife wants our next fridge to have a bottom freezer.

I never had trouble fitting a turkey in there, and I don't really freeze
anything larger. And the shelves mean stuff is organized into
categories, and I have a couple of shelves just for ice.

The type of refrigerator I really don't like is a top freezer. I
considered getting a french door when my refrigerator bit the dust
last year, only because it's become difficult to find a side by
side without water and ice dispensers.

That's what my new one will have. No ice or water in the door to break
or take up too much fridge space. This one will have an ice maker that
disgourges the ice cubes into a basket in the freezer. The freezer is
well set up with a couple of trays and big baskets.

I have 3 units. A 16 cu ft chest freezer, an under counter freezer and a
tall larder fridge (no freezer inside) My preferences.

French door. The refrigerator is on top and has two doors that open
into one cabinet. The freezer is a large bottom drawer.

certificates of merit by her desk, plus one for quite a few years of
working in that department at Home Depot.

Great news on the new fridge. We bought a Frididare a few years back. This guy I knew that worked there..Lowes..told me later the salesmen in applicances called them "Fridgey Junk." It has pretty much turned out to be junk. The front door is rusting out under the paint job around the hole in the door. Gonna have to have a new one soon. May just snag a Whirlpool.

We bought one at Sears, a refrigerator only. We have a stand alone
freezer so I thought, hey, let's go crazy and get a top to bottom
refrigerator!

We now have a full 18.8 cu feet (whatever that means in metric) of
refrigeration space as opposed to two thirds of 16.6 cu. feet.

I have two refrigerator freezers, both top freezers... one in the
kitchen, one in the basement, comes in very handy and I have more than
adequate fridge and freezer space... and don't need to worry if one
goes kaput.

Yes, I got a $50.00 rebate when I bought my new one. I also got a $1050.00
rebate for my new heater/AC and duct work, so it's always good to check and
see what your city might offer.

I got an income tax rebate on my central air unit.

I don't live in a city. I'm outside the limits in the county.

I don't live in *any* city. I'm outside the city limits in the county.
I'm a far piece from Austin. :-)

The stores are all inside the city limits. Brownsville does not give
you grocery bags but Harlingen, where I'm am closest still does.

I have my own reusable bags but had to quit using them as they tend to
over pack them and we have a problem carrying the heavy bags.

No matter how I have tried to talk to the baggers and monitor what they
are packing, they still over pack. I have had to stop using my own bags
so that we can carry them. Sad.

That's totally weird. Do you bring in enough bags to spread the
weight around? I often don't, so I tell them to overpack or just put
the overflow in the cart and I shift things around when I'm back at
the car.
